The Legend of Heroes Series - Possibly The Most Underrated JRPG Series

Honestly i can play the remake without hurry, i intend to play it once i finish playing the games(currently on SC). Besides i get the weird feeling that the remake wont be as good as the original but im willing to be proven wrong.

Yeah, the Sky Trilogy doesn't play nearly bad enough to warrant needing a remake. It'd be like remaking Final Fantasy 6. It already plays real good, and the story is exactly what I want it to be, as is. I feel like Falcom just doesn't have the confidence to take the story forward, so they're just doing what they can to stay afloat.

I don't like spamming earth wall every fight. Or arts.
Maybe a controversial take but the battle system only got better with each game to me.

Also, I think the point of this remake is to attract new players to the series and it really pisses me off that Kondo is not marketing it. He's still sticking to his "word of mouth" strategy which is STUPID. The game looks great so far. I've been burned by remakes already but this one I don't see any glaring issues from the get go like I saw in Persona 3 reload or FF7R.

So I deluded myself that this will be the one good one. Because it will be!

I'll also wait for SC to be out before considering this, but I can't deny it's looking pretty good.

Definitely; the crafts are pretty boring in the Sky games, but started getting more variety in their effects. I think by the latter half of the Cold Steel arc, the games give you so many systtems to completely break battles apart, that there's barely any challenge.

The FC remake is looking good and saw tbe cast for the english dub and it looks solid. They got that mercer fellow to reprise Olivier which i didnt know he voiced in the original one. The voice actress for Velvet(Tales of Berseria) doing Kloe and Johhny yong bosch for Joshua. This might be the first time in a while where ill actively choose to play the english dub of a game. Hopefully the game will be a hit and theyll do the trilogy. Maybe theyll even do Zero and Azure.

Okay so i finished SC!
Hours:63
Bracer rank: B+

So it was a roller coaster of feelings. Liber Ark and its origins are both sad and interesting. I didnt account for Joshua to be a permanent party member near the end so i had to sideline Olivier(a true tragedy). Speaking of Olivier, when he presents himself as a Prince it blew my fucking mind, i always suspected him to be the son of someone important in Erebonia, but never in my mind crossed the thought of him being royalty.

Regarding the fights against the Enforcers, the same still relatively applies(Team, Roles and Strats). Will replay the fights with Olivier for Bleublanc and Schera for Luchi. The only enforcer fight that caughtme off guard was against Renne since she was with Pater Mater and i made the mistake of taking her out first only for Pater Mater to cuck me by reviving her. Loewe was a beast and his arts were super strong, for that fight i tried to spread the team out to mitigate damage. Bullied him with Zin and joshua was on mob cleaning. Didnt struggle as much as i thought mostly because of preparing and the knowledge i gained from FC carried me.

Weissman was....something. His first phase was relatively easy since i would just cast sylph thingy to give the party more MOV and i could spread them out and bully him. 2nd phase wasnt difficult but the arts hit like brick...is what i would say if i didnt have La Crest(FTW). His final phase wasnt hard, but his weakness swirching threw my timing off so damage wasnt consistent until half way. At some point the boss was in a loop of sorts where he would revive Joshua, a mob would kill joshua and he would revive him rinse and repeat. I took that moment to deal damage to him and ultimately taken him out with True Disable.

Rip my nigga Loewe. Also Kevin taking out Weissman was surpringly, such cold and indifference to the Filthy Heathen heretic.

story aside it was a fun game, but i feel it should have been in the first game, pacing wasnt bad, but at times it felt like a slug, more so in the later half.

Currently started TC and it feels off playing as Kevin, after spending time with THE GOAT Estelle. Completed the prologue and im now in another dimension. Looking forward to the game story.

I fucking love Kevin as a character - After what happens in FC, players would be highly fucking suspicious of anyone who appears to be helpful, and Kevin is that exact character, he keeps showing up at the right time to help the crew out, and the player has their focus on him... except he stays in the party til the end and is actually a good guy, in fact he pulls his own Weissmann twist on the man himself and fucking ices him while separated from everyone else. You're in for a treat with 3rd.

The combat of the newer games is much better and alot of the quality of life stuff like hidden quests being much less hidden is going to make these remaster great.

Missing a key story element because you didn't go to some random basement in some random town unrelated to the current storyline was pretty goofy.

To go on a slight tangent and rant here; Trails dungeons are so shit and uninspired, they're nothing, there are barely any puzzles to solve or branching paths to take. Some of the "obstacles" from Daybreak is simply just, I shit you not, pressing a button to open a door next to it.
There's barely any interacting with the environment, no going off the beaten path, rewarding exploration, maybe even have Metroidvania elements where you come back later with a new ability or item, to find new stuff.
There's a very brief moment in Trails Beyond the Horizon where you *have* to equip Water arts to put out fires, but that's it, it's only the slightest hint of a taste of what could be.

I agree that dungeon design is pretty shit. There aren't secrets or any interaction, is just a long hallway that you occasionally break off from to go to a chest, get jumped by the monster inside rinse and repeat. Another nitpick that annoys me is the book collectibles atleast in FC and SC. How the fuck am i supposed to know that at a very specific part of the game i have to backtrack and talk to some random, unassuming npc just so that she randomly gives me one of the books. On a first run is annoying. On subsequent playthrough is just tedious.

God, wouldn't it be horrible if they resurrected this idea again like 12 years later? Who on earth would even consider it? Good thing it didn't happen.

Okay so i completed the first chapter of 3rd. I have mixed feelings on the game and how it will play going forward. Didnt expect Tita and Julia to make an appearance. I like playing as Kev and seeing his origins, atleast the first scene made me have questions. I find it a little weird how they are making Agate look like he is Tita's boyfriend or something. Also Kev calling Rufina a pedophile like that made me choke on my drink while seeing the scene.

One of the things that bothered me about the Sky trilogy was that the overhead camera really restricted the way they could show off the world. I remember there was a scene where Bestelle and Joshua were by the lakeside talking about how pretty the view was, but they never move the camera down so you're stuck looking at the floor. Crossbell games improved on the issue by moving the camera down on certain paths for some nice panoramic shots of the temples and fields. Something I'm looking forward to in the Sky remake is to actually be able to take in the sights these characters were talking about back when I was playing on the PS Vita.

Good point, it remains to be seen if they put in the effort for a minor scene like that though. I mean Rean and Alisa were mesmerized by the trees in Trista back in CS1 and I don't recall that looking very good. So far I've seen most of the effort go into the character animations. Environments are hit or miss.

I like the art direction/texturing/color palette of the CS environments. Yes those Tristra trees in particlar do not look very good. Some of the towns in Calvard with traditional architecture like Messeldam and Oracion are also nice to look at. Shame there are so many ugly modern concrete buildings everywhere, though.

Really not liking these Sky remake environments. They look too cartoony and oversaturated.

On the topic of perspective, it would be neat if you could see airships flying over Liberl, including the Glorious (though that raises the issue of how it could possibly be secret and untrackable). Maybe some boats out on the lake.

I hope the remake gives us better enviroments. Maybe seeing The Liber Ark in the sky or being able to see the towers in Liberl. Also i hope they show Bestelle drop kicking Joshua in the opening scene of the game.
