The Legend of Heroes Series - Possibly The Most Underrated JRPG Series

i completed Trails 3rd.
33 Hours
Difficulty: Hard
Doors: All Completed

The story was a rollercoaster and i enjoyed peeking into the lives of the characters. The variety of characters was fun to experiment with. The doors are probably my favorite aspect of the game. Kevin has to be my 2nd favorite character after Bestelle.

So this was a wild ride. The happy go lucky priest turns out to be a fucking mess and a horrible person. I like how he essentially told Joshua that he let Bestelle get kidnapped by Ouroboros just to track them and set up the events of Liber Ark that culminated in him Salt-ing Weissman. He wants atonement, wants to be punished, essentially he wants to die, but his duty keeps him grounded. I'm genuinely happy how he turned out and I'm curious to see what his new title will be.

Fuck the fishing minigame, the final fisher was fucking cheating and i won because i got super lucky. I swear i spent like an hour trying to beat him. The quiz game with Campanella was goofy as fuck...until i got to brutal and maniac mode, like bro how am i supposed to know the quest pin number or very obscure shit. Regardless after trial and error i completed all quizzes. The remaining minigames are fine

Loved all the doors and my personal favorites are the ones with Kloe, Julia and Richard. The last door was some plot relevant shit that in my opinion shouldn't have been door-walled. Also Campanella breaking the 4th wall was a little creepy since it comes out of nowhere.

Okay kiwi-bros, nothing prepared me for what i was about to witness. Although i did suspect that Renne behaved like an abused kid, never in my life would i have thought what that door was hiding which explains her behavior. The story told was so good on its delivery. My theory is that the other children that were with her actually existed but they perished under the abuse and she started to dissociate by creating personalities based on those children to escape. Alternatively they never existed and she created those personalities to cope and escape the abuse. That Cross kid represented her mental state and once her limit was reached. Cross being her mental state manifestation just cracked and wanted to just die. Honestly after finishing the door, i just saved and turned off the game and went out for a walk. Now you may say, bro is a video game relax, but I'm super invested on the story, its characters that seeing what happened to Renne really hit my cold heart. I hope i get the chance in the later entries to help her

Finally the final bosses were a joke, mostly because i had fully geared my characters and their orbs. For the main group i got the zemuria weapons so the final boss was just me spamming earth wall/ Grail Sphere and just steam rolling the boss since i had Zodiac so i was just running laps around it. For context my team was Kevin, Ries, Renne and Kloe.

Overall i enjoyed the game and now ill take a break and then head off to Zero with this Lloyd fellow and see where the game takes me.

Both the fishing and gambling minigames are pure RNG, sometimes you can fish all the good shit and your opponents just fall flat on their asses, purely out of chance.

It's definitely the most "video game" of the three Sky games, the doors really only exist for the players' benefit, and the characters don't really commentate on it, outside of the very first door, which is a huge shame.

People writing Steam reviews and people on Twitter say Trails the Third is skippable. Absolute madness.
3rd Is like the closing arc of the trilogy. The last door brings up so many questions and its a nice hook for future games. I've also seen people say that "you should skip the sky trilogy because it doesn't connect with any of the games"

Not just the last door - The Olivier door that introduces Osborne is one of the most important doors as well.

I know hes a big player in Erebonia politics and hes involved with Ouroboros, but idk how relevang he will be in the games. Although he looks to be Olivier politcal rival.

Anything i should know going into Zero?

There's a manga called Ring of Judgement that serves as a prequel to Trails from Zero. Up to you if you wanna read it.

Started Zero, i like my nigga Lloyd. Game looks prettier and theres more presentation than in Sky. Honestly i like Randy, Tio and Elie so far. Looking forward to playing it. Hopefully its like a cop drama.

In my head, these three have a dynamic like that one joke about Chris Redfield, and Leon Kennedy. You know the one.

Completed chapter 1 and gotta say im reeeeeeally enjoying the game and having fun playing it, i like Crosbell and is such a relaxing setting to play in. Glad to see Bestelle and Joshua again, and Renne also. I picked up on the Trails 3rd reference. Randy is such a bro. Tio is such a fucking nerd. Elie is Elie. Surpringly enough combat feels better and for some reason since Blind is such a strong debuff in Zero, ill make Lloyd a tank with high evasion and make the other try and inflict blind with their attacks. Honestly the team kit feels tight.

The SSS squad is really fucking good, one of my favourite JRPG parties ever.
Starting from Zero, because you do counterattacks on evade, the AGL/EVA stat has gone from useless to broken. You can make dedicated evasion tanks now.

One thing I *don't* particularly like in Zero is that the casting of arts (the charging up the cast, not the actual casting) takes up a turn and would tick buff/debuff/status ailments down. And because standard buffs only lasts 3 turns, an ATS buff is pretty much only effective for ONE turn out of the three turns it lasts if you don't refresh it, it's retarded.

Okay so i completed Trails to Zero, but currently im away from my pc and wont be able to give detail. Just know the game is fucking fire and im glad that Elie and Lloyd got a scene together and got an upgraded s-craft. As of writing this i have started Azure and finished the first chapter. Ill give my stats later.

Thanks for sharing your journey, I really enjoy these sorts of posts. Hope you keep having fun with them, the crossbell duology is the best arc as far as I'm concerned and the sky trilogy close after.

Zero is so fucking good. One of my favourite scenes in the entire series is Lloyd and Randy's talk after that race in the downtown district.
Elie is kind of boring, sadly. Of the SSS, she's my least favourite, she's not bad, she's just... kinda there.
