Community Munchausen's by Internet (Malingerers, Munchies, Spoonies, etc) - Feigning Illnesses for Attention

I’m glad you guys enjoy Emma, she definitely posts enough to sustain a thread. Yesterday she decided to make her Facebook profile pic a photo of Anne Frank, a nice callback to when she claimed this poor dead jewish girl was her autistic special interest.

I don’t know if we have any ASL speakers in this thread, but if you exist, I’d love some feedback on this video. She went through a long phase of posting these long reels with no captions or explanations, supposedly blathering on in ASL. This one is my favourite. It’s unfortunate the Nobel committee doesn’t take applications in sign.

As a technological troglodyte, I apologize in advance for any formatting errors.

I can't help myself

Is Mame this person’s name? Is it after the book “Auntie Mame” or the musical? I could definitely see that character being latched onto.

It’s yiddish for mother. I’ll let you ponder for yourself what their relationship is cause I honestly have no clue.

I think they go by Christi, the same person referred to in that Facebook post. If so, they are part of Emmas band Zionist Revolution, with credits on hits such as ”My Vagina Is My Territory (Get Off!)” and ”crack open my jar of matzo ball soup mark zuckerberg (it’s screwed on real tight)”. I haven’t listened to either because I value my well-being.

Potential Paige update... Not confirmed as her, but age matches.

"Woman wins court order to refuse medical treatment and food"

"A 26-year-old woman with a history of health problems has won an order to “let nature take its course” - a move that could allow her to starve to death in hospital where she is refusing food and medical intervention.

While she and her family believe she suffers from gastroparesis, a physical condition affecting the stomach, there has never been any medical evidence that she has the condition.

Instead, she’s been diagnosed with a factitious disorder, a mental health condition in which the sufferer consciously self-induces, feigns or exaggerates physical or psychiatric symptoms to receive medical care. It cannot be treated with medication."
So if Paige (assuming she’s the woman being referenced here, which seems likely) is refusing any feeding assistance or medical intervention, can the hospital tell her to GTFO then? It seems like that’s only fair. If she’s not going to allow any help to be given, she can go waste away in her own bed without taking away medical resources or staffing hours while hogging a bed that could surely be used to help someone who actually wants to heal. I get the feeling she wouldn’t find it as fun to dramatically die at home without a hospital’s worth of onlookers, but she could at least traumatize her poor family one last time.

Yes, BUT the point of the judgement (which I will make a post about because I wanted to discuss some interesting points from it) was about whether she has capacity to make medical decisions. The judgement was that yes, Paige has capacity to decline any treatment with the caveat that this means she can always change her mind and consent to any treatment.

So the most predictable thing that will occur is that she will be discharged home, self harm and want treatment for her wounds and get back in hospital. However it does mean that when she then changes her mind back to refusing treatment (namely feeding), the hospital can then discharge her home.

However something of note currently is that Paige is reported to be quite frail and emaciated from refusing feeds and claiming gastroparesis, so she's now likely too physically frail to safely discharge home which will mean having to find a suitable place to discharge her to with supports in place. It's still a mess.

Where she lives there isn't really any place for her to go if shes medically frail like that.
They will most likely just admit her whenever she 'needs' it, and discharge her as soon as she starts refusing feeds or fucking with the nurses etc.
They all know she's faking and have done for a while.
I don't think hospital is as much fun now that they make sure she gets nothing out of it.

If she's picked hospice care, wouldn't the care she needs just be turns, morphine, and peri-care? Not my country, but if she's legal to make decisions, she could follow the same legal procedure an elderly dying person would. Nobody's* calling an ambulance on the 80-year-old terminal cancer patient discharged to a care facility on hospice.

*yes symptom management; you know what I mean

Dumb and Deadbeat Jessie, who hustles harder avoiding work than most people do earning a living, continues her hospital larp.

Once again, pics from Reddit where the running joke is to censor Atlas as he doesn’t consent to being included in the madness.

We return to lunar orbit where Jessie - yes, that is how she looks, you don’t need to check your display settings - continues her tale of woe. Hers is a face that has been through a lot…mostly gravity. Funny, I didn’t know moribund came with such good lighting and cheek colour.

Blah blah hyperbole. She is “severely chronically ill” and is being forced to “survive unsurvivable circumstances”. She talks about her hospital stay like she stormed the beaches of Normandy. You’d swear she was under siege by enemy forces, not politely monitored by the night shift.

She claims she lost 22lbs in two weeks (9ish kg) on top of the 25lbs (so 20kg in total) weight loss she had supposedly before admit. This is a stealth weight loss - completely invisible to the naked eye. She must be losing it from places no mirror can see and no human would dare go. I’m pretty sure the scale is as delusional as her storytelling.

Let’s just factcheck her for a second - 20kg weight loss in such a short time is dramatic and comes with a host of visible changes that anyone with working eyes could notice. Sharper cheek bones and a a more angular jawline (yeah, that definitely does not apply here), hollowed or sunken appearance around the eyes (compare to Jessie, whose cheeks look like they are trying to eat her eyeballs), loose skin, prominent collar bones, dull skin, looking tired and gaunt. Jessie, on the other hand, looks like someone who just stepped off a cruise ship and really got her money’s worth on the all you can eat buffets. You can literally see a fold of fat where her neck seeps into her body. She hasn’t mentioned anything about refeeding syndrome, which would be a top concern for her doctors in putting her on TPN. She hasn’t talked about being severely dehydrated or needing additional fluids.

I’m not sure how emergent she really is if she is getting a new GI team rotated in and they haven’t even bothered to come check on her yet. But she is so seriously unwell, folks! Sounds like she doesn’t have a specialist assigned to her care. She complains that no one is about over the weekend.

Claims her NJ tube is still incorrectly placed. If true, this would be a serious error - incorrect placement can be life threatening. For such an emergent patient, they sure are taking their sweet time in getting to her. Someone is “supposed” to place it “today or tomorrow” and says a nurse might do it as a backup. Claims she has had 20 X-rays so far for this.

Refers to her minimally invasive colonoscopy as surgery. Wouldn’t be surprised if the doctors struggle to determine which end is which - they both spew shit.

That’s all for today, folks. Tune in next time to find out if our hero lives to grift another day!

It's more that she was 'moved out' of the only 2 nursing home type places here (very unusual so probably not allowed back) her parents don't want her, so she's stuck. There is a huge issue with lack of housing, especially Govt. provided housing for useless people with no life or income like this. And, she hasn't been put on Hospice and I don't think she would even want to be.
For all that she took the hospital to court to say she was competent enough to refuse treatment, she hasn't yet done so. She just wanted the right to not eat without being put back into No-no casts and tubefed.

There's the possibility of setting up supports in the home (equipment and some home nursing) if her parents are willing to do the bulk of the work, but yes she obviously wouldn't be suitable for a nursing home given her age.

Also she's not actually medically frail, she doesn't have high care needs with regards to medications or equipment. She has an NGT (that she doesn't actually need) she's using for analgesia and antiemetics, which she can administer herself at home.
She's just physically frail due to anorexia and deconditioning.

If she's picked hospice care,
So this wasn't the outcome (or goal) of the judgement, and I feel like admitting her to a hospice bed night be a hard sell given the likelihood of Paige changing her mind about the level of treatment she wants.
She may well be linked in with a Palliative Care team who can see her as an outpatient, and tbh she may already be linked with them for symptom management I don't know.

I know for a fact that she is under the Palliative Care team, but they will literally only help her with medical type symptom management etc in an outpatient setting. Her lack of anywhere to go is the issue and they will not help her with that at all. It would be frustrating and infuriating if her parents get bullied convinced to take her back into their home because of the situation. If she plays her cards right, she could feasibly stick around torturing her mother for years or decades yet.

Uhm. It's definitely the sad walrus. You can read the full court decision here. In addition to just every detail matching one really specific point makes astronomically unlikely it's not her.

Unless there are a bunch of 26 year olds in auckland sporting lobster claws and no-no casts...
Human nature can be so dark and evil. Destroying your own fingers like that. Animals do crazy things, but it's such fascinating number in humans. You hear of a dog so neurotic it chews off its own tail maybe once in a lifetime, or in a parent or grandparent's lifetime and you just hear about it and you assume it isn't big. Humans are so self-destructive and now it's captured on social media. It's so weird and horrible. I don't like it.

I do not understand the demon inside Paige. Does she want to die? Does she want to be saved against her will? If she does want to die, is it to hurt people because they didn't help enough? Does she want people to acquiesce and realize she is right?

I feel like it is probably a confusing mash of all these and more ideas, but I have no real theory of mind. The fact that I can understand it and have insight into that much evil is frightening. I think I would rather know about it, as terrible as it is. To make an answer for this social contagion. I've seen it closer than the internet, and I just want to fix it. I don't know if I will ever have the answers, but I want to push it closer. I just hate this. It's like a cancer of the human spirit.

Hate to be lazy - but can someone point me to a full write up on Paige? Because this is some vampire no-legs (what was her name?) level shit.

TL;DR - the judge ruled that because Paige is not a drooling potato, she has the right to kill herself via Munchausen’s.

It’s an interesting read, and not too long - definitely worth at least a skim.
