I hate that I actually agree with Bob here.

Wild to think that it came out in 2019 and Disney still hasn't managed to get even close to it in market interest across any of their franchises since then. As usual, they learned all the wrong lessons from it.

If the "Rainbow Road" wasn't already pre-existent to the games (Mario Kart), and they just invented it FOR the movie, and had some flamboyant RuPaul sound-alike/lookalike involved somehow, THEN maybe Bob would have a point.

I suspect Bob's dislike for debates is that he's bad at them. This also explains his distaste for angry reviewing as well, he tried it and wasn't successful. Anything Bob doesn't like, I suspect he would like more if he or his side were benefiting/winning from them.

The video starts with signature weak "motte-and-bailey" arguments such as following up "the sky is blue" with "the Civil Rights movement was all good no bad" (when I have heard real minorities including black people disagree). He then goes into how he hates it when things like sales and Metacritic scores are brought up in debates about which movies are better. He also brings up a now-forgotten controversy with the Mufasa movie (from last year) ending the 2020s Sonic movies' winning streak after everyone moved on and stopped paying attention, which is a fair point.

Then he goes on to make the single weakest argument he could have possibly made: bringing up how unpopular Monsters in my Pocket was. Never mind the fact that it can be seen as a spiritual predecessor to the popularity of Pokemon (which he even mentions in the video, given that "Monsters in my Pocket" and "Pocket Monsters" sound alike, and was the reason the Japanese name was changed to the portmanteau we all know and recognize) and failed because, get this, it "gamified" debates about which (pocket) monster was more powerful by... simply having a number printed on each one's feet/shoes, and that settled it, incentivizing more than one person in a friend group to want to collect them, and making you want more powerful ones with bigger numbers.

Pokemon arguably got more successful by gamifying this EVEN MORE, with multiple different ways to battle (not just the video games, but the cards or just smacking the mini-figures against each other) and added more elements of depth such as HP, damage, type advantages, buffs/debuffs, items, and swapping out whenever yours was in a worse position and you weren't ready to lose them yet for that battle. This disproves that people dislike objectivity in debates, in fact the necessary addition of elements and dimensions will engage them in results-based debates even more.

He then goes on to say something else profoundly stupid: that moneyball-esque statistics are making sports radio boring and uninteresting. Are you serious Bob? Dads around the world love sports talk shows that ooze number-charts, and they haven't done anything to hamper one's interest in sports, in fact they make upsets and surprise plays more exciting with more knowledge other than "which one of them looks stronger/faster/we've seen them in the zone during this match?" It makes it more shocking to see someone who's been out of it all season with an off-the-charts error of loss-of-ball-possession count suddenly pick up the slack.

Overall, another worthless video that exists to show off Bob's knowledge of some old franchise and give him the opportunity to feel pseudo-superior by going "I'm so much better and more enlightened than all of those NERDS with their facts and statistics" by making a one-two double blow of piss-weak arguments that require the viewer to be living under so many rocks, they know next to nothing about the mega-popularity of both Pokemon and sports talk.

Bob's Mario sounds like Lou Albino from the old American cartoon. Even the newer voice from Super Mario 64 onwards is too different from what he is used to. I really doubt a guy raised on Lou Albino Mario the way Moviebob was, actually enjoyed Chris Pratt Mario.
