In 2018 he clearly believed that Mr. Moon resided in Florida.

I think that at the time, although it's hard to say for sure because the story keeps changing, Greer was saying he could not afford the $400 despite his savings. So Greer may have never outright said, "I can't afford to pay the $1000" but it just kind of naturally follows from not being able to afford $400, right?

More serious answer: RG tends to react impulsively when he feels angry, slighted, etc. with less thought behind his actions than his usual below-average amount. What we're seeing is the result of that impulsive rage when he neither gets what he wants nor has control over a situation. RG's recent filings come across more as poison pen letters towards Mr. Hardin than actual court documents.

What does he do? How does a man with the intellect and social appeal of a fly in the bathroom manage to hold down what I'm assuming is a minimum wage job?

I believe he does DoorDash/UberEats style delivery work which isn't the worst idea for a socially maladjusted creep since there should theoretically be minimal contact with people. He also did rideshare/passenger stuff for a while, but apparently he got the boot from Lyft so I don't know if he continued that with Uber, or if it's just deliveries now.
