Death Battle - Analyzing weapons, armor, and skills on the Internet since 2010.

I think the only other fight that had big controversy this season was Omni-Man vs Bardock but at least that fight was well animated which again just adds an extra layer to how bad Asura vs Kratos is.
I wouldn't say it was animated fun or well. It was bland and forgettable and omni-man's model looks like ass. They couldn't even wait for the MK1 model for it.

I'm glad everyone is in unanimous agreement that Kratos vs Asura is quite possibly the worst death battle video ever made to date, worse than Giorno vs Joker.
I'm not too familiar with God of War or Asura's Wrath. What exactly did they get wrong? Was it Kratos' sword somehow draining Asura's Mantra?

A lot of Kratos' "feats" was background lore and even stuff from a cookbook. It was telling because a lot of their conversation about Kratos' abilities are stuff he "should be able" to do or "could possibly" do with little showing of what he can do. There was even a series of memes that just outright debunked some of the retarded shit that's been said about Kratos both on the show and by powerscalers and general, like so:

People take outliers or highly contextual, unexplained events from the games and translate those into combat feats. Take Kratos stopping Atlas from crushing him, after he had been depowered from godhood. In the past people said Kratos could somehow be capable of withstanding the physical force needed to uphold half the planet, since Atlas is doing it with one arm. But hes only holding up Greece, thanks to the Norse games saying every country has its own gods. People say Kratos can dodge lightning speed attacks because he can react to Zeus but then he can also be hit by arrows and does get hit by arrows from undead enemies in the novels.

Well, there was also this from another poster.

Yeah that's the complicated part about scaling Video Game characters is that there are obvious limitations in gameplay. Something the creators of God of War have talked about is that gameplay Kratos is not representative of his actual in lore power, which can make it feel cheap.

The Powerscaling stuff doesn't bother me much. Characters being MFTL but still doing mundane activities comes with the territory.
Powerscaling literally only matters in VS debates and has zero bearing on the writing. From the perspective of a writer, Kratos just killed a Sun God. They're not thinking about the speed implications of Helios' light crossing into other universes and how that scales to Kratos. Or how Kratos beating Atlas or Cronos factors into his stats in hypothetical matchups.
(Where did you hear that little tidbit about Kratos by the way? And what is this about a cookbook?)

Honestly, the fact that the most we’ve seen is arguments about the result of a DB episode is probably the reason why the vs debate/power scaling crowd (or a particular member of it) doesn’t have a thread here. It ain’t like these folks have harassed a creator over something in a fight or an action scene that contradicted the conclusion of their research and analysis, or claimed to know a character more than the people writing that character.

Ironic because that's exactly what Kratosfags did to the writers of God of War. To the point that they talked down to one of them like he was a stupid child when they didn't give him the answer they wanted.

And honestly I think a powerscaling thread would still work just from the concentrated autism alone, even if there's not too many big pieces of drama attached to it.

Ignoring the lore, the fight was also bad for simply not being good.

The music was too melodramatic to really get you hyped up and tried to be super sad when it really didn't need to. Compared to another fight with a similar tone (Dimitri vs Guts) where that felt more hyped despite the sadness.

The fight was also too one-sided where Kratos barely sustained any damage and Asura felt more like a God of War boss than Asura really with how the fight was treated.

Very nice to see a big DC name lost to a non-Marvel character. I'm wondering how Wile E. and Tom can go. Like I don't think they're even capable of dying, really.

It's definitely going to be a gag fight like Spongebob vs Aquaman, Saitama vs Popeye, any Deadpool fight, or Scooby vs Courage.
