General Wrestling Discussion

tbf if fight forever had a shitton more content than wwe 2k25 or mdickies wrestling games, i'd buy him some snow to sniff on, because the gameplay is easier to pick up and fun.
Then why don't people play it? I see people playing old videogames that don't have any of the features a 2k game has just fine.

Examples: Saturday Nigh Slam Masters, Rumble Roses, WWF Warzone

because theres no content in it except for the lame ass story mode and the football field battle royale shit.

rumble roses is just here comes the pain with anime fat mommy milkers and nice bootys, dont know about the other two.

I'll take McMahon and Ventura over JR and Lawler every single time.

I can't really put I to words why old wrestling like this is so compelling. If you put some random episode of modern RAW in front of me, I'd probably lose interest but I can't stop watching this random episode of Saturday Night ME.
My brother and I watched the SNME where DiBiase and Virgil sat ringside beside Dustin Rhodes while Dusty and Macho wrestled the other night. The whole thing is just tremendous. Vince screaming for Dusty to turn around while Dustin got beat up with that over the top tone of pure disgust, Dusty screaming 'No!' and draping himself over Dustin to protect him from a further beatdown, Dustin gigging himself in typical Rhodes fashion and bleeding like a stuck pig...just outstanding. Made me feel cheated we didn't get a serious, long NWA style run with Dusty in a blood feud and Vince on commentary. What a combination.

WWF No Mercy had way more content. There was a story mode for each of the seven titles and they had major branching paths. It also has a strong modding community so you even when you do everything in the base game you can just use one of the massive overhaul mods to get more content.

Meanwhile AEW Fight Forever has one story mode and a stripped down CAW, so why would anyone play it? Hell, someone even modded No Mercy to be AEW so you don't even have the roster as a draw.

So at Battleground, Trick Williams beat Joe Hendry for the TNA title. To be honest, I've never really been a fan of wrestlers from an outside company winning the top title of another company. Especially since NXT is a developmental brand which makes TNA's roster look much weaker. I don't watch TNA, maybe someone who does can provide some perspective into whether this can be turned into a good story over there.

Its the whole atmosphere of 80s wrestling and even before it. These smoky venues, with the lights dim over the audience because the wrestlers in the ring are what matter. Lighting the crowd the entire time is so dumb, dim the damn lights over the crowd so they have to focus on the ring instead of looking around to figure out which gay chant they want to join in on. If everyone's in the dark, people are gonna react quicker because they aren't waiting for other people's cues to react to.

And let people smoke in the arenas too, call it part of the show since the smoke adds to the atmosphere of the event. And lets see some old school bloody feuds too. I'm tired of this pussy shit, I want to see AJ Styles go full right wing and lynch R-Truth during a bull rope match.

I'll be honest, I do watch TNA and I've got nothing. There's zero upside to Trick beating Hendry, other than having TNA heels call Hendry a chump for losing the title. At least I guess we'll get Trick showing up more than Omega did.

It's just an excuse to have Hendry chase the title again, but I dunno, I had already given up hope before he won it the first time.

We'll probably get guys like Elijah, Kazarian and Eddie Edwards (Or any other member of the System) try to win it back. But again, if one of them wins it back... :shit-eating:

Bray Wyatt dying is the best thing that could have happened for their careers. They've been coasting along on sympathy for years now.
Not really. Dexter, Cross, and Gacy had good things going and they are now trapped in the Wyatt vortex.

I assume the bullshit around the game was partially throwing money in some scheme.
There's nothing that complicated in "make a wrassle engine, make your roster and assets, finalize roster"

even just a gamer knows you have to put the damn game out

The chief selling point for the AEW game was that it was going to be a modern remake of the game engine used for such landmark wrestling games such as No Mercy that had been discontinued but still held as the Gold Standard for wrestling games.

Tony could have made a wrestling game dirt cheap but the whole point of the money sink was to recreate No Mercy from scratch and Kenny was supposed to ensure it due to him being a huge video game nerd.

Calm down, Cornette

Fight Forever is empty dogshit. No Mercy is not the ultimate pro wrestling game, and trying to remake something old instead of making something new and better was retarded nostalgia baiting.
All they had to do is make a game better than 2K's garbage, and they failed

I see a lot of consternation over Fight Forever's lack of content and not much over it's execution, which was also shit. Not sure what they've patched, if anything, but the game had tons of awful glitches; moves not working properly, objects like tables and chairs not behaving properly, characters falling through the ropes, characters falling through the floors, the character creator mode not working at all, it was and probably still is complete and total jank. The entire 'major glitches are fun and quirky' cope that people trot out for Toddslop was deployed hard but nobody was buying it, pun intended.

I'm not a Joe Hendry fan and the whole "viral meme wrestler" thing has been done to death. With that put out there, TNA did Hendry dirty. Yeah he's getting paid, doing "bucket list" stuff and at the end of the day, I'm sure that's all he cares about but TNA offering him up as a sacrifice on the altar of their WWE "partnership" (lol) has been disastrous.

You can argue his loss to Orton, you can argue for his less-than-stellar Rumble apperance (no one thought he was going to win, but tossing him out in less than 5 minutes made him look like a chump) but there's no excuse having him lose on the developmental brand to a non-champion.

I've seen fans argue "wins and losses don't matter, he probably got signed to WWE". OK, but every chance that Hendry has been exposed to the WWE audience, he's been displayed as a loser who does a couple of funny tricks. How is that going to benefit him long term?

People can say what they want about the AEW/TNA partnership, but AEW at least got TNA to make Rich Swann drop it to KENNY OMEGA. TNA jumped at the chance to job their world champion out to some literal who in what I can only guess is an attempt at showing enough good will that WWE will buy TNA and Anthem can get some return on their investment.

I'm unironically missing Vince. I'd rather WWE go back to barely acknowledgeing the wider wrestling world, than the entire wrestling ecosystem devolve into developmental territories that exist solely to serve WWE. I really hope AEW get themselves together and stops pandering to deviant weirdos and becomes a legitimate alternative.

The big thing that sunk XFL 2.0 was Covid, something which the Snowman completely ignores.

Not saying that the XFL would be rivaling the NFL or anything but it'd probably still have a TV deal and the such since networks are starved for content these days.

Guy is such an idiot.
yeah, XFL 2.0 was smart enough to try and be a developmental or feeder league for the NFL. It was getting good reviews, too, up until they had to cancel due to covid.

Vince was a seriously underrated commentator. I liked Monsoon, too, since he'd tell you the moves and wrestler's style throughout the match ("Dibiase is who you want in now, he's good at finishing a match" and stuff like that). Ventura was the best heel commentator because he was generally right about stuff he was saying.

JR was great because of the excitement but Lawler overall was pretty overrated.

Vince's passion, storyline advancing, over the top style and constant promoting made him my favorite. Gorilla and Jesse, as different as they were, both brought a kind of credibilty like you described. Agree on JR and Lawler as well. JR did had my favorite single call of all time during the Rock/Hogan match though. When Hogan drops the leg and JR calls, "He beat Andre The Giant with that move!", it conveys so much gravitas it legit gives me goosebumps. Flashbacks to my earliest wrestling memories when I did believe Andre was an unconquerable monster.
