I have a fair few Japanese artist friends. Every single one of them would agree that yes their fair use laws are fucking retarded. I have tried to pay them a fairly large amount to draw for me but they refuse for legal reasons. They would love to draw shit for me but legally can't. The average American artist would die if they had to deal with Japanese copyright. There's a reason Nintendo is how it is. But idk bitching about tight copyright laws in a situation that is retarded but understandable and bitching about AI in the same breath is a level of hypocrisy and lack of self awareness that only a redditor could achieve.Oh boy, more seething over ZUN using AI:
Or a discord user.Guy spergs out over someone with ALS using AI to allow himself to keep speaking using his own voice. Goes so crazy that even bleeding-heart liberals in the server call him out for his stupidity.
These people don't actually care about being able to own the extensions of your body, they care about how it misaligned with their ideals of society. They are effectively socialists who don't believe at all in property rights despite their constant appeal to IP laws.Guy spergs out over someone with ALS using AI to allow himself to keep speaking using his own voice. Cognitive dissonance is a thing, as strange as it is. That is to say - I wish I knew.I noticed most anti-ai folks are progressive in nature yet paradoxically hate the very tech that brought to existence Trans and NBs and other associated identities. Why must they fight progress despite being for progress? Without tech, how else will they sperg with their fellow failures of society?
They tend to be religiously pro-covid policy, and pro-vaxx. But the for some reason hate AI being used even in medical contexts.I noticed most anti-ai folks are progressive in nature yet paradoxically hate the very tech that brought to existence Trans and NBs and other associated identities. Because most of them aren't actually progressive, they're just reddit autists. They don't hold these beliefs because they genuinely believe them, they hold them because each one has been groomed into them alongside the autism itself. They didn't look at the world and decide on something, they looked at a reddit post and decided on that instead. When you allow your world view to be decided by individual reddit posts like that then you aren't forming any real set of beliefs, you're forming individual ones glued together without thought. It's the same reason that lets the pro lgbtqahageher people support hamas, the pro muslim people call themselves feminists or the anti fascist hate israel. They don't have a belief system or any internal thoughts, they have several opinions they picked up from r/all that week and never interacted with what that means on any deeper level. They don't need to worry about hypocrisy or paradoxical beliefs, someone on reddit will have already churned out a response that they can memorise word for word to regurgitate when criticised, if they even have the maturity to hear you out when you call them a hypocrite.I noticed most anti-ai folks are progressive in nature yet paradoxically hate the very tech that brought to existence Trans and NBs and other associated identities. If AI messes up even images, let alone animation, then would not relying on AI when people's lives are on the line be deadly? They tend to be religiously pro-covid policy, and pro-vaxx. But the for some reason hate AI being used even in medical contexts.
If they shared that level of skepticism in all of the medical field they'd have a point but these are highly "trust the science" people who makes exception to AI because its trendy to do so. These are the same people who think that covid didn't implement strict enough policy and want to arrest people for leaving their homes for any reason. If AI messes up even images, let alone animation, then would not relying on AI when people's lives are on the line be deadly?
Is relying on some paki that half the time couldn't sound less interested in your health not just as bad? If you can double the quality of a GP's training and cut out all the shit ones, just use AI to help the good doctors to work twice as fast, twice as fast but half as many. That would be much better than the current system. You're also not relying on AI, you'd still need a qualified doctor to check everything and it's not like chatgpt is going to be the one doing cpr in the emergency room. It'll be for speeding up the paperwork, analysing scans quicker, doing the shit that doctors need to do but you don't need to be a doctor to do them. Any medical AI would also not just be chatgpt, it'll be something either specially designed or modified far enough to be a completely new thing anyway. If AI messes up even images, let alone animation, then would not relying on AI when people's lives are on the line be deadly?
To be fair I feel reassured there is a human pilot on board on a flight, even if the automated system in the plane is vastly more safer than if the human were driving it. It's a bit irrational to put more trust in a human than a statistically more effective mechanism but I do want to have back ups for back ups.Is relying on some paki that half the time couldn't sound less interested in your health not just as bad?
Medical AI is mostly being used for diagnosis based on x-ray/ct/mri/etc. results these days, and as such it's no more of a direct risk than you might incur with a human analyst. In fact, AI is arguably (read: definitely but people don't like it) much better at interpreting scan results than a human is, especially if a human is put at the end of the process to double-check everything and make sure it makes sense. Really, most "professional" use cases for AI are supposed to have a human at the end but execs (boomers) are idiots and think it's a magic machine like the star trek computer back in the 90s so they shouldn't have to pay someone to make sure everything's done right. If AI messes up even images, let alone animation, then would not relying on AI when people's lives are on the line be deadly?
All that matters is success rate. If a real doctor fucks up 15% of the time and AI fucks up 10% of the time, AI would be better. It doesn't feel as good trusting something important to AI, but that could be an irrational fear. Like people who are afraid of flying even when it's statistically one of the safer ways to travel. If AI messes up even images, let alone animation, then would not relying on AI when people's lives are on the line be deadly?
Although, there is apparently evidence that AI can mistakenly learn to diagnose things based on spurious evidence in x-rays.In fact, AI is arguably (read: definitely but people don't like it) much better at interpreting scan results than a human is

Also this is user error, they shouldn't be giving the machine extraneous information. Actually, they should be forcing the machine to produce several results with different levels of context to then be analyzed by a human professional.especially if a human is put at the end of the process to double-check everything and make sure it makes sense
It's pretty good for basic research like solving complicated issues like the protein folding problem (extremely important for cancer and other pharma research). If AI messes up even images, let alone animation, then would not relying on AI when people's lives are on the line be deadly?
CorridorDigital (one of the people who started experimenting with AI first with their AI Anime) Got an artist for the second episode.
There was also Love Letter to LA, where they had the animators work with the AI on pretty much every step:
You actually get better results with an artist, because you can fine tune the models with the help of the artists themselves instead of relying on whatever you can scrape and confusing the model with junk images. But the companies refuse to do this because the end result they want is all the zeroes on the balance sheet rubbed off, not more efficency or a better product.
It is also where I got my pfp. But I really wish more artists would go in this direction and actually use the tools to create something cool or bizarre with it. Hell, just create anything. After "Very Noise", we explored the possibilities of AI for this new Igorrr music video: "ADHD". We embraced almost all existing tools, both proprietary and open source, diverting and mixing them with our 3D tools. This video is a symbolic journey into an experimental therapy for treating a patient with ADHD, brimming with nods to "Very Noise".
We know the use of AI in art might be polemic right now, plus we with Meat Dept actually started the clip in 3D, like we did for Very Noise, but at some point we were laughing so hard trying to do creepy things in AI that the clip ended as a mix of both technologies. The music, however, is 100% homemade.
I'm pretty much onthe same page. My annoyance with AI is 0% an existential freakout of what is art and 100% annoyance at people who think that the first result of midjourney is a great idea to spam 100 times over the internet. It is also where I got my pfp. But I really wish more artists would go in this direction and actually use the tools to create something cool or bizarre with it. Hell, just create anything.
It’s gonna kill the entire creative field and possibly the internet. Look at Google veo 3. How the hell are you going to get attention as a human artist, animator, musician, actor, etc when the entire internet and streaming services are filled to the brim with quickly churned out indistinguishable AI content? It’s been happening on TikTok with fake music and video. It’s gonna happen everywhere soon.Another 50% goes to the people that essentially see this new tool as undervaluing, or straight up killing the need to learn the traditional methods. Time and effort spent into learning is never wasted. My time in Woodprinting class taught me ways to be a better digital artist. That applies no matter what tool or method you end up using, and that includes using generative AI.
If you actually believe this, you're retarded. It’s gonna kill the entire creative field and possibly the internet. Look at Google veo 3. Yeah it’s a tool as the nuclear bomb is. The people pushing this want the cheapest/faster way possible and that’s where this is headed. Google also has created their own ai music platform. It’s over. Not just for the creative field either.
