The leaks said it spend way too much money.
Yes... the slide I posted above is from that leak. It still made money.
I wonder where all the money is going? Is this just corporate bloat where every screw needs three supervisors to oversee its turning or what? I'd really love to know.
I think even normal gamers are starting to get curious about this shit as they hear about hundreds of millions being wasted on flop after flop, and credit listings at the end of a game that take 45-75 fucking minutes. The main studio might have a couple hundred employees, but then they outsource so much shit that eventually you end up with 4,000 people having their hands on the project, and that's likely where most of it ends up as shit needs to be re-worked multiple times over because it's not being done under the direct supervision of the people actually running the project, wasting more time and money before marketing costs even become a factor.

The Insomniac leak from a while ago had a whole lot of numbers on where the money for Spider-Man 2 went. I can post them here for anyone who didn't see them back when they leaked.

Does it take into account the Disney fee to use the characters?
That would be part of cost(and budgeting) yes. Same licensing fees any game company pays to any IP holder unless the IP holder for some crazy reason wants to contract out the development themselves.

194 million on payroll is fucking ridiculous(especially since it was next to nothing for the first 2 years in early development and then ballooned out of control). And of course there's no way to see the executive pay portion of that.

Not what I meant. IIRC, Disney gets part of the revenue for Spiderman 2 including from the PS5 bundles. That means that part of the PS5 money went to them if the console was paired with that game.

Even in the more detailed charts that Retarded Weeb provided, they still made money. Yes, that's how licensing costs generally work(profit sharing). Fixed license costs would screw the IP holder if the game does better than expected.

Even if you subtracted the $40M in profit sharing, which actually came in 6 million under budget from the slides Retarded Weeb posted, and subtract that from the total profit of 74 million, which would be insane bookkeeping since the point of the internal information would be for Insomniac) that's still a 34 million dollar profit at the end of the day with the rest of the costs accounted for already.

The question I have about Borderlands 4 is if 2K is retarded enough to force another round of EGS exclusivity.
Worse than that. They're pushing for the $80 standard Nintendo is pushing. A lot of big publishers want GTA 6 to release so they can push the standard price of a game to $100.

They've had successes while going massively over budget in the past and having the rainbow flag shit in their games, because what matters to the general public is the gameplay.
But even that isn't holding. Doom Dark Ages was "below expectations", while Borderlands 4 has "more than twice the budget" of Borderlands 3.

Did you not see the slide above? Where are you getting that Spiderman 2 was a failure? It wasn't a massive success, but far from a failure.
I heard for months Alan Wake 2 was a huge success, only for it to later come out that it failed to break even. I still see it cited as a counter to "get woke go broke".

I'd like to know too.

Consultants pull in large fees. 6 or 7 digits to have someone like SBI "consult". Then there's the "deprofessionalisation" article posted earlier where you have people pulling massive salaries to be some extremely niche role that adds nothing of real value to the finished game.

I forgot 2 more games. Wolverine and Spiderman 3 both have budgets over $300 million at this point(SM3 as of 2023 when was apparently already up to 385 based on the big leak from Insomniac)
I don't think I played a game in the recent years that did cost more than $50 million, maybe some Nintendo games. You know already both games will be woke and full of niggers and sTRong women.

And a lot of the complaints about Doom The Dark Ages is that the gameplay sucks(it's not exactly a narrative driven series), and the Borderlands 4 gameplay from their own trailer looks incredibly slow from the player perspective as well as enemies that don't appear to be particularly responsive(also the main narrative ended with 3, and Gearbox having to drag old characters into the new story just to try and generate interest that way.

Because Alan Wake 2 was a failure for multiple reasons, including being woke and idiotic marketing. Remedy Entertainment was claiming increased revenue in their public statements, not profit. The main reason for this was their deal with Epic.

Basically, Epic Games funded the thing, and as a result of the deal Remedy wasn't entitled to anything until Epic recoups its investment and even then Remedy only gets 50%. Apparently, after a year and a half it did finally make some money for Remedy https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/alan-wake-2-is-finally-profitable-and-earning-royalties-for-remedy

But even then it still isn't much because part of the deal with Epic Games, was to keep it an Epic Game Store exclusive, which if you pay any attention to the PC game market pretty much dooms any PC releases due to how many people refuse to touch the Epic Game Store. Whether or not Epic could have made up the 30% cut Steam would have taken with sales volume is unknown, but it certainly would have sold more copies.

It's not like this is any different than publishers claiming Veilguard or AC Shadows were successes, using idiotic metrics to do so, then having to eventually try and hide in an investor report that it actually did shitty. At least with Alan Wake 2, Epic were the ones out the money due to funding the development however I don't recall(and can't find anything covering) who paid for the marketing. Regardless, needing a year and a half to turn a profit on a video game when sales have become a trickle is laughable.

edit: And Doom TDA and BL4 will probably still do better than a lot of the other woke bullshit games we've seen released over the past couple of years. Also, just because bad games with woke shit pasted on them do badly, doesn't guarantee that a game without woke shit pasted on it and mediocre gameplay will do well either.

So the Black Panther video game from EA got canceled. And the studio behind it got shafted too. I remember a while back on how some developers talking about not wanting to hire white people to make this game.

Not surprising. Was announced 2 years ago with nothing to show for it other than a boring leak a couple of months ago, and it isn't like the franchise its associated with has done well in the past few years either. Should have done something right after the first movie came out, not 5 years after, and still nothing worthwhile 7 years after.

A new game by the creator of "Katamari Damacy", Keita Takahashi, has been release today, called "To a T".
I learned about this game due to a Mega64 video ad that they put out today, and being a fan of Katamari I decided to learn more about this game, only to be surprised by the brownness of it all.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was any other indieshit game, but it's a game directed by a Japanese man with some very Japanese designs, so all the brown people come out as bizarre.

From the trailers, this seems to be the main cast of characters.

This is you fucking character creator.

It's being published by Annapurna, which publishes a lot of woke indieslop, so they could be the ones asking for the DIE characters, or it could be the Takahashi's studio itself.
After leaving Bandai Namco in 2010, he went to live in Vancouver, and then in 2012 he moved to San Francisco where his indie studio probably is. So it could be that Takahashi has been consumed by California woke mindvirus, or it could be that some artist he hired was the one that made everything brown.

I just found it really curious considering how fucking weirdly Japanese his previous games, Katamari and "Noby Noby Boy" were.

The pre-gamergate indie clique have had ownership of him for ages now.
Last I heard of him was in this giant fundraising scam* that got free advertising in Hotline Miami:

*Note: Keita was not responsible for the scam. It was this shitty website that pulled all sorts of indie gaming strings and then died in like 3 years.

This looks like something out of South Park, or something. I expect parody, not something taken seriously.
