I think it goes back into what I said, if the original text truly admits to any of this, or if Gamefreak really was pro LGBTQ then why do the fans still complain about how there isn't any canon rep in it (or at least in the anime)? I looked up canon LGBT characters in Pokemon and the first result I got is mostly speculation with a character or something you could say is a hint but could also be Gamefreak "queer baiting". I mentioned this on this thread or another but it feels like a very weird conspiracy that LGBTQ people make to where companies have to hide their support for queer people by only making these "hints" in the anime, games, etc but because of anti LGBTQ society they can't make it canon. Though to be fair, I don't know how Japan views the LGBT nowadays. It *is* a huge misquote. The text is ambiguous but a better translation would be "Six months ago I was the karate champ but I'm a doctor now," making a pun off "Karate Champ" being the direct translation of a pokemon name in Japanese. There's no shift in subject in the sentence implied by anything like the ';'.
