Releasing it would have actually made the county look good (so far as I can tell cop behavior has been entirely by the book and circumspect despite Nick's yowling). Now the previously impeccable reputation of the county (at least in this case) has a lot of people thinking they look corrupt as fuck. I'm personally not going down that road, despite Minnesota's less than excellent track record, but while it may not be corrupt, it LOOKS that way.

My perspective is informed on the belief that he is a con man. I think he demonstrated that very well up until the passions cracked his veneer and showed him to be an audacious liar. The reason he insists on always taking people into DM's to discuss matters privately is because he's excellent at manipulating people. I think that also translates into real life where, when he needs to, he can project a facsimile of a downtrodden but mentally put-together man. From the perspective of the cops arresting him at his worst he was a prissy gay little moron who more or less cooperated with them. Cops have to deal with niggas trying to kill them. Nick's likely a breathe of fresh nitrous for them is what I'm ultimately getting at.
