Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

It's likely some soured opinions about Rare's Xbox output (especially the Kinect years) blowing over to their early days.

Speaking of their Xbox output, I think that a lot of those games were quality, even Nuts & Bolts as its own game.
Viva Piñata was the shit but it just wasn't a good fit for the Xbox.

Also, instead of doing Kingsglaive the movie, they could have made it a segment in the game where you play as Regis, kinda like how you play as Dumbledore in Order of the Phoenix on PS2.

Don't get me wrong, playing through the game was fun, and I'm totally down to do it again when the DLC finishes coming out, but the point still stands that it was severely incomplete. If I had to wait another year for them to implement everything, hell, I wouldn't have cared. I would've probably loved it in the end.

And do you guys know what was up with Chapter 13? So many people were complaining about it being buggy, but I only found it to be annoying and needlessly lengthy, along with the needless health-draining from the Sword of the Father.
You actually can play as Regis in A King's Tale.

Never noticed any bugs in chapter 13, but it was easily my least favorite part of the game.

When I said play as Regis, I meant in the beginning, when Lucis falls and he's attempting to defend it from the invaders (hence "kinda like how you play as Dumbledore in Order of the Phoenix on PS2"). Not in some weird side-scroller.

Hell, if they wanted it to, they could have made such a story segment reminiscent of the Red Wedding.

Mass Effect: Andromeda is easily the most enjoyable Bioware game they've shit out in 7 years and is better than Mass Effect 2.

You think I'm joking.
ME:A is the only shit game that I have ever fucking enjoyed. So-bad-its-good movies have been a thing for a while, but to me ME:A is the first so-bad-its-good game ever. It's 40 hours of shit, but the best and most hilarious shit you'll ever play.
Also
ME2 had a weak plot and daddy problem missions.
Andromeda has gay lisp Krogans, the worst animations I've seen in a AAA title in awhile, and fanfic-tier writing.
Andromeda is infinitely more fun.

I have always thought Baldur's Gate was unremarkable as a fantasy setting and is easily the most generic RPG setting that first comes to my mind.
I mean yeah, it's Dungeons and Dragons. Can you really call something generic because everyone copied it?

I thought Final Fantasy VII was poorly written dreck back when it first came out, and I still loathe it today.

I like FFVII, and I thought that liking it was an unpopular opinion in a lot of communities now? Kind of like Ocarina of Time, where you can't even make a video praising its achievements without adding that "it's overrated still LOLOLOLOL DURRR" without getting shit for it. I like OoT and FFVII more than their series supposedly better games, honestly.

I don't get how everyone is praising Zelda Botw for being "Open world game done RIGHT" and how it's perfect in every way, when in practice it uses the same elements that everyone complains in other openworld games. I'd argue it's way worse in certain things (like power creep) than other games

I like openworld games, and think BOTW is one of the few non overrated Zelda games, personally. I don't get the bashing some heep on open world games.

Yeah lots of people shit on old Rare too now for some reason. I noticed Jeff Gerstmann doing it on the Bombcast some years ago and then I noticed everyone else doing it. Maybe he's some kind of prophet of shit taste, the same thing happened with everyone suddenly hating JRPGs and liking pro wrestling like 5-8 years ago.

I can remember old game magazines from like 2004, 2005 doing it. I got the impression people hated Rare now, but clearly the Yooka Laylee kickstarter shows otherwise. It's one of the few games I'm looking forward to this year, despite its tard drama with JonTron.

I think DK64 kinda sucks though

Also, I've pissed off retro gamers before by admitting I prefer 3D over 2d. I prefer the Metroid Prime games far more than the 2D Metroids, 3D Mario over 2D Mario, stuff like that. For whatever reason, that's caused people to have a bug up their ass at times when I've mentioned it

I really like BotW but I don't think it's a 10/10 like many critics are saying. It's certainly close, but it does have a few issues they could've fixed. That said, it's still fun enough for them to not be a very big deal.

I'm not sure if any Zelda game is 10/10 material, as overall the franchise to me is a bit overrated, not to be confused with thinking it's complete crap. But I'd say BOTW almost matches the praise it gets, it's very very good.

Before BOTW, my favorite Zelda games were the more "underrated" ones like Link's Awakening, the Oracle games on GBC and Majora's Mask (I'm aware that every fag now claims it's their favorite Zelda game, but I liked it even when everyone thumbed their noses at it)

Mass Effect was shitty to begin with, so making it more shitty might be an improvement.

Eh, the first two games were good. The third was crap, for reasons far beyond its stupid ending. Andromeda is such a dumpster fire though that I cant wait to play it

I also still like Japanese game development, which is popular to bash. But half of my favorite games to this day are Japanese

Are those underrated? I've seen a lot of praise for them, LA in particular.

I guess nowadays not so much, but back in the day no one talked about LA, and people hated MM. Now every contrarian gamer wants to like the "underrated" stuff and ends up elevating them to being mainstream. I actually hated MM in the beginning as well, but a few years later replayed it and discovered I liked it more than OoT, and the various OoT clones Nintendo pumped out as sequels (WW, TP, SS). This was before everyone "discovered" it was "da best". But I gotta go with the zeitgeist on BOTW, it's better than MM

fite me irl

Ok to be fair I haven't played it in over 14 years. I should load it up on an emulator and actually try it out again. I do remember hating it. Which is odd because I've always loved Rare platformers, and am glad they're making a comeback (at least I hope)

I legitimately played it only once about 20 years ago haha
