Mega Rad Gun Thread

At 18 years old I had my dad sign for my first ever pistol a Ruger P97 DC... I want you all to bully me for it.

It's WELL past 50k rounds and there's no rifling left, it makes a very good paper weight, hammer... it also is a gun. I was pretty poor since I did grad + school I was a twink (full homo for girls) and that was my carry gun that thing the size of a fucking bible. Never printed. I carried it mexi mostly.

Also I love my dad is pro gun but he watched Forgotten Weapons and he's dead set he will make or buy a Ti FAL. Fucking cool... but some how my father will buy a chunk of Ti and a lathe and expect me to do this.

Apex is claiming 70 rounds on a bandolier on 5 round strippers of 7.92 mauser is only 25... well I ordered 3 Let me post in a few weeks if I got a killer deal or I fucked up. Hope your well gun frenz.

Please stop buying Turkish stuff. I know their surplus isn't as explosive as their production ammunition but stop chancing it.

Unless you were shooting corrosive ammo and didn't clean it no pistol cartridge can shoot the rifling out of a barrel. What has likely happened is that the barrel is leaded all to hell and needs a very deep cleaning. Pistol cartridges just don't have the velocity or the heat to burn a barrel.

It's a shame the P-series is gone. They were truly over built. A lot of time that statement is a meme but it isn't here. Mine's shot thousands of rounds of 9mm, from +p to weak target loads and never failed once. its never been lubed and its never been cleaned outside of oiling the exterior if the gun got wet.

And they are CHEAP. mine was 300 or so dollars, and it was only that expensive because it was brand new in the box.

Its actually my favorite wonder-9. great trigger. a lot of creep but its not a bad kinda creep. very smooth. very easy to feel the point where it's going to break. its turning that plum color older blued Rugers do which i like even though its technically a defect. and i like the aesthetic. brutalism-esque. Beautiful in its utilitarianism. and 18rds of 9x19 is pretty good for a 40 year old gun.

in other news, I've found a gun I'd really like to own. One problem: its in the UK. So I might be getting into the importing business here soon. I'll have to ponder on it.

I get a very somber feeling when looking across the old Wonder Nines. The Ruger P series, the STARs and S&W autos aged just like the cars from the time in that, yeah they work and they're cheap, but would you really use an '86 Chrysler Lebaron as a daily driver today?
I wouldn't carry my CZ75 or 5906, but that's because full-sized pistols (even newer striker guns with poly frames) are a pain in the ass to carry concealed, not because I have reliability concerns.

Went shooting with family this weekend. Shot all my guns except the 300 win mag. We had fun. Brother in law got his first gun so we went out to have some fun. He got a Stoger pistol in 9mm. For a noob gun, its cheap and user friendly. He can get better later. Ill make sure to show him the light lol. My favorite was probably my dad's Ruger 22 rifle i got him ages ago. 25 round mags with a scope are fun like a laser blaster lol.
But why though? Unless you want to start issuing bullpups, 20 inches is just unnecessarily long for your average grunt. Today is all about mechanized warfare, and most infantry combat (if we are actually planning for peer-peer conflicts instead of fighting insurgents) is still very close quarters where the extra performance doesn't matter, but that rifle being too unwieldy inside a house or a trench might be a difference between life and death. 14.5-16 inches is just fine.
20 inch barrels are the light and the truth. A M16A2/A3/A4 is peak performance. And as a SKS owner, it actually does give 7.62x39mm an extra 100 yards compared to a AK.
DP with Kubynov hopper feed conversion based on the Japanese type 11

:stress: why would you give a DP a hopper feed??? It was ass on the Type 11. Now you're fitting that shit on an otherwise good gun. Why???

My dad has a Ruger P Series. Absolutely indestructible. Great everything gun. It will run literally any ammo you feed it and it's a shame it wasn't adopted. Personally I want one if I don't inherit his.

Skill issue. I have been carrying full size guns for over a decade in a very hot humid climate with a physically demanding job.

The p89 is the firearm equivalent of the crown Vic. Its a bit spartan but also has a little outdated flair.

It would absolutely fuck hard as a daily driver today with a Rowland 960 conversion and a long barrel

At one of the things I attended a black lady had a P89 and it stove piped every round and she had to keep clearing it and had to retry twice to clear the qual. I assume it wasn't well cared for.

the biggest problems i see with the Ruger P series is people using thick grease for lubricant (either use light machine oil or spray with some CLP or something, it doesn't need much and you don't need to pack it like a bearing), being some sort of burr somewhere interfering with movement, given that these are mostly cast parts a burr can be missed somewhere, and the feedramp has some deformity or something interfering with feed or extraction (solved with mother's mag polish, just don't round anything and you aren't removing material, just polishing it out).

Does anyone know why this thread is invisible to me unless I follow a direct link? It doesn't come up in the Self-Sufficiency forum list, I can't search it, it doesn't show up in my notifications, etc.

Edit: I got the notification from the sticker, but there's no link to this thread in the Alert entry. Weird.

Did you accidentally ignore/block the OP of the thread?

thoughts?
DEA/ATF merging feels like it was inevitable. The ATF bumblefucks their way into every other department's business but I also think it's compressing it a bit too much. The War on Drugs has been a shitshow.
But he's also right about pro gun victories not being rewarding to those that are pushing them, not that we're used to being happy about it just yet although the HPA is great.

Honestly as someone who spent his youth working on the 2.2L Turbo cars... Maybe?

Going to depend on where it spent its life of course, a lot of these died from rust in the Midwest.

the guns really dont have that many wear surfaces or interacting parts. the meme that you don't have to clean them is probably true. but its probably one of the easiest metal frame pistols to limp wrist because the grip is so thick and the slide is so massive and top heavy
