Rogers' most egregious thing was that some of his scores were demonstrably false because he would do things like claim he scored 999,990 points in a game that only increments the score in various powers or steps of 50, thus a score that ends with "90" is not mathematically possible. (The game would cap at 999,950 if it had a 6 digit counter that did not roll over as there's no logic to make the tens column show anything other than a 5 or 0.)

That kind of stuff is indefensible, and it makes his other claims suspect by proxy even if some of them are true.

Ben Heck had Todd Rodgers on his show years ago to try and verify if his record Dragster run was possible. He basically programed an ideal run and it was still slower than Rodgers record. They actually split it into two shows. Its been years since I watched the episodes but I seem to remember at some point you can tell Ben realizes its probably bullshit. Ben Heck had Todd Rodgers on his show years ago to try and verify if his record Dragster run was possible. He basically programed an ideal run and it was still slower than Rodgers record. They actually split it into two shows. Its been years since I watched the episodes but I seem to remember at some point you can tell Ben realizes its probably bullshit. Todd also seems to realize hes been busted but still continues with the ruse.

I remember this. Omnigamer (a person who makes tool-assisted / TAS speedruns) did a very comprehensive breakdown of the Dragster code and did an analysis that calculated out a theoretical "perfect game" and that time was still slower than Rogers' claimed record. Omni's work was this whole spreadsheet that was plotted out with every possible permutation of inputs that could bring someone to the end of the race and none of them were that time.

I don't think Rogers' Dragster score is legitimate, it has never been documented. However, I do think it's possible that maybe he did get a record or two in SOMETHING at one point and with that "high" that came with it he twisted it into "what if instead of just one game I claimed to be good at EVERY game", and because the criteria for judging things back then was flimsy people would just believe it. It was a different era. He was able to get away with his sham for decades before it came under scrutiny, and the only reason it did was because he would not shut the fuck up about his stupid Dragster record and eventually people who did TAS speedruns started wondering if they could beat that time with a "perfect run" only to discover OOPS you can't actually get that time.

That said, if Rogers did have any legitimate records, all of them should be treated as suspect unless there's proof because he lied about so many of them that it's a safe assumption that none are actually genuine.

Tried Rickey's hot sauce today, the regular and Jalapeno one. Not to power level but as someone who saw King of Kong back in day I didn't realize I was being worked. Billy just looked like an giant asshole so the narrative of the movie seemed to fit perfectly. Finding out years later they worked the narrative to make Billy look even more like a heel was somewhat shocking.
