You know one thing I have noticed is that a lot of the problems that Ian finds himself involved in all have to do with this idea of control and not wanting to feel like he owes people anything or is beholden to them. Which is ironic but I'm not sure if it's an Anisa trait or Ian trait.

I think you're right. He constantly gets pissed if people expect some kind of responsibility from him, and he's obsessed with "getting back" and "not looking weak." He talked about how he had to drag this out in public because it would have been "weak" not to, but snaking his friend wasn't a sign of weakness because he "didn't owe him anything."
