Isn't the legend around the Boo saga that Toriyama basically told them he'd only do it if they'd fuck off and let him do what he wants? Or that they bribed him with essentially free reign?

That might not be the case entirely, but there's some kernels of truth to that belief.Isn't the legend around the Boo saga that Toriyama basically told them he'd only do it if they'd fuck off and let him do what he wants? Or that they bribed him with essentially free reign?
I see this claim a lot, but Luffy isn't a reincarnation of anyone. He just has the same Devil Fruit and that's it. And in fairness, the "power of a literal god" just amounts to some pretty basic toonforce.reincarnation of the first ever pirate with very little foreshadowing
Everyone keeps calling him "Joy Boy", people mistake him for Joy Boy, for all intents and purposes, it's worse than what even fucking Naruto did with its reincarnation nonsense, because at least there nobody kept calling Naruto Ashura or whatever the fuck.I see this claim a lot, but Luffy isn't a reincarnation of anyone. No one actually thinks he's Joy Boy, though. And only a small handful of characters call him that. We'll inevitably get a scene where Luffy finds out why people call him Joy Boy or Nika and tell them to knock that shit off. He'll entirely reject any sort of "Chosen One" status any character tries to place on him.-Snip-
no, it's a One Piece problem. No one actually thinks he's Joy Boy, though. And only a small handful of characters call him that. He'll entirely reject any sort of "Chosen One" status any character tries to place on him.
He won against Kaido, but it's not like it was one-sided, he even had to restart his new form and went into a days-long coma when he won. Not to mention Kaido had been fighting for hours by that point. It's not like he transformed and then one-shot Kaido, he still struggled.
Yeah, I can't argue about the whole "Why didn't the World Government just kill him" thing. Only thing I can think of is they assumed he'd never actually awaken the fruit, since no one has in 800 years.
Most of these "main character" points are just common Shonen tropes. Really strong trainers (Master Roshi, Jiraiya), having important bloodlines (Naruto, Goku, and Ichigo has like, every race in the Bleach universe in his background), and unique powers are hardly something only One Piece does. You're just listing common Shonen tropes. Not saying you can't dislike them, but it's not a "One Piece" problem. It's a genre problem.
I liked the comic book look of early arcs long past, too, but Oda has absolutely improved as an artist, especially in the backgrounds, there's a lot of gorgeous double pages showcasing it. It's likely his assistants that're making the art look a little weird to you, though he's also getting older and he not long ago had to get LASIK surgery for his astigmatism.(but the real issue with One Piece is that Oda has been working himself so hard for so long that the art has degraded to pretty dogshit levels compared to what it once was.)
Had an idea for a DB Isekai like story. Was gonna do it like that one Katia Prequel comic where the readers would give their input and decide what to do next. It's such a frustrating story because you could easily do so much more with it if it wasn't just a "haha, Yamcha is loser" story.
Don't you shit on my boy Dr. Gero and his absolutely baffling scientific prowess.Y'know as much as I like cell, which is a lot, I do really like the idea of Gero and 19 then later 16-18 being the big bads of that saga. Or flip it and have the kids start off as the bad guys and we get the Oldman and Clown as the final showdown.
Cell genuinely feels like something better suited as an actual alien like Freeza. He's just too advanced and powerful to buy Gero making him, even with DragonBall's retarded SCIENCE! it uses.
Yeah Earth science and magic has always been shown to be uniquely powerful.Don't you shit on my boy Dr. Gero and his absolutely baffling scientific prowess.
Not very powerful.Yeah Earth science and magic has always been shown to be uniquely powerful.
Take the Freeza Force healing chamber as an example, completely dwarfed by a fucking bean of all things.
You need a special ring crafted by the Gods to time travel? lol, not on Earth you don't.
Don't even get me started on Capsule technology, that shit's nuts.
Bro, Earth in DB could be pretty fucking scary if they had the mind to be.
One thing I've always wondered is how powerful of an Android could Bulma make? I know she probably wouldn't make one, but lets say Yamcha at the start of the Cell saga convinces her to turn him into one, how powerful would he be you reckon?
What do you mean? His father was a brilliant scientistGoku has some of those tropes, but at the end of the day, he's a nobody. He's a Saiyan, but his father was a nobody
Fair enough. I do like the fact that she isn't a complete know-it-all when it comes to science. In her own words, she can barely even understand the blueprints for 17 and 18, and she needed her dad to help out with 16.
They weren't ready for perfection at the time. Also, Cell was meant to retain his sci-fi bug monster look, but the editors wanted it changed.
Even the monster space ticks fell into Toriyama's same face syndrome...Remind all of you Lavos 2nd phase is basically Cell 1st form.
Toriyama sameface syndrome is a funny meme, but it's almost completely fabricated.Even the monster space ticks fell into Toriyama's same face syndrome...
In Chrono Trigger and Dragon Quest it really shines. Like this is literally just Bulma with orange hair.Toriyama sameface syndrome is a funny meme, but it's almost completely fabricated.
Just about every single important character Toriyama has ever drawn, you could determine their identity based on just a back and white image of their face alone.
The differences are subtle, but so long as you're not a complete faceblind retard, you can easily accomplish such a thing.
A lot of people like to point out that Gohan looks similar to Goku, but of fucking course he does, he's his son, and even then the differences are there.
Comparing any female character Toriyama made to Bulma is a little unfair considering he put Bulma in about 30 different fucking outfits throughout the run of Dragon Ball, complete with different hairstyles. In Chrono Trigger and Dragon Quest it really shines. Like this is literally just Bulma with orange hair.
