Casino Royale was the last good Bond movie. Everything that came after just got worse and worse.
Its a shame that it basically became the "watchmen" of bond films. A film so good that it destroyed every other bond film after it as they kept chasing after its "deconstructive" success rather than make another proper bond film.

Right, I find it bizarre that we never got a proper follow-up to Casino Royale. Instead, we jumped into QoS and then washed up broken down Skyfall Bond. :|

Fans who want "grim and adult" are loud, but that doesn't mean they're the majority. Pandering to them has never produced anything exceptional.

this was always my problem. Casino Royale is probably my favorite franchise movie of all time. I loved it then, love it now. everyone sucked skyfalls dick and I hated it when it came out, why? because THEY SKIPPED WHEN HE WAS FUCKING JAMES BOND. I liked all the anniversary shit shoved into it but spent the whole movie going man, I sure wish I saw Craig doing any of the shit he apparently did that was old school movie Bond shit the last 10 years.

I know jack shit about James Bond besides the bare minimum, but I honestly feel really bad for fans when it came to the most recent releases. Especially with On His Majesty's Secret Service. That's the one, right?

Now I know how Daniel Craig haters felt. For the record I loved Casino Royale and think Quantum of Solace is flawed but still a fun movie.

But this ain’t Bond for me, this is a fashion model.

Not sure if it was rumor or confirmed but I always wondered how the last act Home Alone sequence would have felt if Connery came back to play the old Scottish man. The movie would have still felt the same with all its flaws (Skyfall is decent) but having the OG Bond actor on the same screen with Craig would have been some amazing fan service and they should have just done it. Like I don’t know why they seemingly chickened out with that.

No it would have been an utterly stupid move to have put Connery in the film and just fuelled more casual viewers to think shit like Bond is a code name. Or hell, even make people running the franchise to now just make it that.

As a big Bond fan, loved Casino and I always really enjoyed Quantum. Skyfall never quite did it for me the way people raved about it. I enjoyed it but didn't love it. Yet the more casual Bond fans I knew really liked it. As for it skipping to old Bond. At the time I enjoyed the theory that with the floating timeline, Dr No to DAD occurred between QoS and Skyfall. One has to remember that even at this point you could still imagine the Craig films as part of the floating timeline and they hadn't really doubled down on them being completely their own thing.

As for the game, I can get someone thinking, "not Bond." I think I'm at the point where I am worn down and beaten. There's plenty there that interests me. I can see Bond in it and I thought it looked pretty good. I will probably buy it on release unless there's some game play footage that makes it look like ass. It's a young Bond, it's more contemporary but that is fine. A game would be the perfect setting to do a retro Bond, but they're aiming at expanding fandom with younger people who won't have the same interest as us old timers.

Barbara Broccoli just greenlights Bond movies based on whatever makes her moist. (No fault of Craig, though.)

I dunno I think it would have worked. It seemed to have been written entirely in mind that Connery would do it. If I remember right they pan the camera to make the Scottish guy seem like someone special and it would have been if it was Connery.

As for caring about precious Bond lore it’s a silly task Bond is potboiler Spy Novels turned into silly movies. They’re just not meant to be taken seriously. It’s about fun! One of the few things I like in Die Another Day is seeing Pierce play with Connery’s gadgets.
Is James Bond a codename for the agents to hide their identity? Is Daniel Craig’s movies it’s own unique Bondverse since we had a new Blofeld? It doesn’t matter it’s fiction.

See again I’ll always like Craig’s Bond. It felt like Bond to me even if he had blonde hair. I’ve grown to respect all the Bonds and I used to think Roger Moore sucked.

I dunno maybe I’ll get used to IO Interactive Bond if the game is good. He just reminds me too much of the Insomniac Games Peter Parker.

I don’t hate it, yet. Kinda like it actually.

Time will only tell.
Bond looks fine to me, people bitched about Brosnan and Roger Moore being “pretty boys.”

I’d rather have a young bond for the first game so he’s not old as hell by the final game. A bit Nathan Drake-esque but the Majesty’s Secret Service theme plus the face scar from the books shows that there might actually be some care being put into this.

Minority M and Moneypenny is slightly headshake and eyeroll worthy but wasn’t Brosnan’s Moneypenny and Felix Leiter black?

Bond is extremely white, has blue eyes, Chad chin, strong jawline.

Calvin is one of the better channels on Bond on YouTube.
Calvin is pretty great.
He’s one of the few fags on YouTube that I can tolerate.
Him being gay never comes up at all and he doesn’t act too fruity.
He also made a video once where he clearly makes the idea that “people who don’t want Bond to be a black guy are racist” out to be just as stupid as it sounds.
He’s very nuanced and his video game reviews from back in the day are pretty great.

Not that anyone cares about my shit opinions, but I watched all the older films recently for the first time (had only previously seen Brosnan and newer films).

My takeaway;
Connery was good, but Diamonds are Forever and Never Say Never Again (I know it's not official) were legitimately so bad it killed any goodwill.
Lazenby was weak and I was bored out of my mind.
Moore was obviously campy and silly, and his films were hit and miss, but I found myself really enjoying the later films for how ridiculous they were. Loved him by the end.
Dalton was lame and the only good film was License to Kill.
Brosnan is great, but he was the first I'd seen, so I'm biased.
Craig fucking STINKS. Awful, the worst.

Obviously Sean Connery is a classic, and being the age I am and growing up seeing the Brosnan movies, I have a soft spot for Brosnan as well. Especially the first few. As a kid I liked the campy Moore movies, but now I don't really like his portrayal, too smooth, too clean.
It took me a while to actually see the Timothy Dalton movies, but I gotta say he turned out to be my favourite, right on par with Connery. He really should have gotten the role earlier instead of Moore. Only two movies, that's criminal.
