I think it is safe to say that if you want to save the trees, you must cull most of the Chinese.
I know you are making a shitpost but my brother you don't know the half of it. This is US Politics chat so I'll keep this brief but:
Chinese, especially older chinese, have this massive hard-on for "traditional ways" and conspicuous consumption. This means they their shit trimmed with ivory, they want animal furs, and more importantly, they want their houses built and wooden items made with extremely rare, extremely slow-growing old growth trees. And they will accept NO substitutes (unless conned by their fellow countrymen selling it to them). So you have shit like CITES listing Camphor trees as "absolutely to not allow transport" but China still has a thriving camphor wood chest and dresser industry.
Now, back in the 1800s when the top 10% of chinese elite could by these things, this stuff was't an issue. Drink your Tiger Gall Bladder tea from your jade-and-teak mug as much as you want. It'll take you so long to go through the existing Camphor trees the saplings will be ready.etc. but in the late 1800s industry rocketed to supply the Brits, so existing stocks were depleted but that's only a problem because now that there are 2 billion of them and the top half billion have enough money to buy and sell an Indonesia dirt farmer, this shit is a real definite problem for species survival.
And the chinese give no fucks, the more rare it is the more expensive so the money they want it to show how rich they are. Zero fucks given for plants and animals surviving for future generations, especially ones that aren't chinese.
Also additional blah blah blah about before a Camphor trunk/wardrobe was a 100% functional item, the camphor killing and driving away pests likes fleas, lice, and moths from your clothing placed inside. So these expensive items were treated with extreme care, and handed down for generations. Now with modern fibers and pest control, it is just a pungent piece of furniture so they get ignored, neglected, and treated like shit and thrown out so they need to be replaces more regularly.
Reminder that the Netherlands has to regularly dreg the amsterdam canals because the chinese tourist come to visit, buy a bicycle, and then toss it into the canal when its time to go home.
When COVID hit, I lived in an area with a high Chinese student population. The local shelters were innundated with Huskies. Chinese in the US love huskies because they closely resemble Samoyeds. And there is some Chinese woo-woo magic thing about having a Samoyed making you powerful and long lived and wealth (I think an emperor had a hard on for them or something. Anyway) and a husky is "close enouhg". So basically these chinese students buy a husky (or apparently get one from another chinese who is leaving) knowing they'll only be here for a few years and they can't bring it home. So since they all left with no replacements, the shelters were full of neurotic Huskies many not housebroken.
