Oh for fuck's sake, this isn't Godzilla versus Kong, why should we give a shit what they do, unless we're actively trying to give Gunt ammo to be smug and fatly fight back?
Because they're being retarded. And if you don't think the 87 mentions of "we love our state and our religion" sounds weird, I don't know what to say. At a minimum it's creepy.
Sahira is an epic Karen. Really, all this to citizen-snitch over something so minor? Especially in a country where everyone is grifty (just not so stupid as to get caught)?
Maybe it's to her benefit to prove she exposed a horrible foreigner on the dl and her
disabled son unperson husband. Or maybe she had no choice after the flurry of internet outreach from crusaders smelling blood. Who knows.
But - let's pretend you (the general you) don't hate Chantal with the heat of a thousand suns: By any measure, even in a place that has this rather obnoxious law, does tackily asking for
a few schekels money for a cat you can't afford and shouldn't be taking home, or for disgusting fast food, warrant flipping someone's life upside-down, displacing them, and disrupting a larger family? Sure, there's a suite of laws she's likely violated, and I'm not saying that she doesn't deserve whatever she was fully on notice she was tempting by violating them. But this "we are officially proceeding" business is goofy.
No lessons on cultural and legal differences, or the special adherence to laws that a guest in a country would be very wise to observe, knowing the potential/ likely consequences, in different parts of the world, please; I'm well aware. I'm simply saying Sahira is annoying, and squealing on Chantal in the US or Canada where she might get a fine or a pass from police for something not worth the time to prosecute is one thing, but if the consequences for what is ultimately a harmless offense are enormous, it suggests the reporter either a) legit fears ramifications for not reporting*, b) is a busybody, c) is ambitious or seeking favor, or d) is dumb/ unsophisticated/ weak.
*especially when the internet busy bodies made it impossible not to, though I'm skeptical of any part of this option due to the breathless "and we have investigated and found she's done more!" comments, which suggests more b/ c/ d.
