At least eight people were killed and several others injured in a school shooting Tuesday in the southern Austrian city of Graz, local media reported.

Austria's interior ministry confirming that several people had been killed at a Graz school.

A police operation was underway at the BORG Dreierschützengasse school, a secondary school located in the northwest of the city, Austrian police said in a series of posts on X.

The police added that several emergency services, tactical units and a helicopter had been deployed to the area. “The situation is secure. No further danger is expected,” it said in a post on X.

Police spokesman Fritz Grundnig told Austrian public broadcaster ORF that police had evacuated the building after gunshots were heard.

Those injured included students and teachers, who were taken to the nearby Helmut List Hall events space for emergency care, according to Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung.

A meeting point was set up for the students’ parents at the ASKÖ football stadium, the police said.

It was not immediately clear whether the suspected perpetrator was among those injured.

The Austrian interior ministry did not immediately respond to NBC News' request for
comment.

Artur isn't an uncommon name. I've met a few. I also don't know of non-jugoslavian foreigners going to a BORG.

Some info for the non-austrian Kiwis: The school he dropped from and shot up is a Bundesoberst Realgymnasium aka BORG which are schools teaching kids from 10 to 18 years of age or 14 to 18 if you join in 9th grade, mostly from a middle class background. They tend to be a little more exclusive due to requiring people to apply for them properly. All this spoke against it being a muslim.

Unlike other schools, they don't prepare you for a job but they're one year shorter and that way you to get to university sooner or do a gap year.
If you drop out, you're stuck and need to get your shit together. According to latest news, he was signed up to courses offered by the occupation-service to improve his chances at getting a job.

Putting all of it together: I think he's a complete loser and his motive was the same as the Pooner-shooter's: He was a failure and lashed out in the place it all started to fall apart.
They're not American levels of gun ownership but pretty high nonetheless.
I think the main difference is that we don't have a "gun culture". Nobody meets up to go to a shooting range. Gun owners also tend to be a bit older on the average because they're mainly bought for home defense or the gun owner needed to wait 15 years after Zivildienst to get a license.

Austria doesn't have a lot of gun control in how you can acquire them but one condition is that you did not refuse military service.
If you were deemed unfit for military service (physically or mentally) you still get to own a gun and aren't forbidden for one and a half decades. It is utterly retarded and one of the many reasons the mandatory military service needs to be rebuilt from the ground up.

I should note that Germanic countries (Germany itself, Austria, Netherlands, prob could include Scandinavia too) have EXTREMELY strict laws on naming perps. On the opposite side of Ze Pond the media blasts all identifying data about perps within 24hrs. That's fucking illegal in Germanic Europe, the press can post the first name of the perp and sometimes last name initial too. The American style shitshow where the perp's life gets autopsied live on cable TV news just doesn't happen there from what I understand,.

It shouldn't happen here either considering how many lives have been ruined by the media covering stories way too soon.

Artur to me is a Polish name. I'm not saying that the shooter was a Pole, just that every Artur I've known was either Polish or Latvian.

lil update on the original krone link:
According to information from the Krone, a farewell letter was discovered during a house search in the Graz area. According to the letter and investigations among his circle of friends, he had failed the sixth school grade and was looking for someone to blame. It appears to have been an act of revenge.

A pipe bomb was also found in the perpetrator’s house – however, it was not functional. He also sent a farewell video to his mother.

In addition to the eleven fatalities, twelve other people were injured, nine of them seriously. One person was still in “very critical condition” as of Tuesday evening.

Heard about this on the radio around an hour ago. Even my normalfag coworkers now agree that the longer it takes for them to reveal the name and face/ethnicity of the perpetrator, the higher the chance of him/her being brown.

This might age really badly before the post has been made, because I haven't fully caught up, however...

Nigga of all nations in mainland Europe, Austria is the least likely to ever cover up it being a Muslim. If anyone the politicians would be using it as further reason to justify their one nation one God one culture beliefs.

Didn't know that in Austria, to graduate from sixth grade you need to build a functional pipe bomb.

Maybe the Austrians will now understand that the gun laws in America are not really the reason why people can kill children in schools without problems.
But I doubt

a hostage crisis gone bad
if i recall correctly those churkas were trying to extort the russian government into recognizing chechen independence

that's not the same as these school shootings in the west where the goal is mass murder for its own sake

they do it in their own countries constantly, with crazy high body counts, it's just not international news because who cares

IMO countries or regions which have either a serious organised crime problem or a serious terrorist/insurgency problem have an inbuilt filter for these types of scumfuck psychopaths that prevents them reaching the random massacre stage, as they have well established and reliable avenues where they can throw their lives away killing or hurting others in a way that gets them postmortum infamy while also affording them asspats and even some gibdats should they not be too retarded to be of any use. Hell it would be logical that in such company many of them might reconsider the whole suicidal killing spree thing because of how they get to enjoy tangible reputational and monetary rewards just by killing or hurting people at a steady pace at their bosses behest.

Im glad that even though I've seen a million of these types of videos now (and contrary to what the media tells me; that ive become DESENSITIZED to this), they still bring the same revolting sense of disgust, shock and hatred out in me (and im assuming most on this board as well).

My only wish is that he spent his last seconds afraid and full of autistic regret (as im assuming most of them do, mainly because they cant realize the consequences of a concrete decision more than 2 seconds after they make it).

Will this finally pull the true crime spotlight off Fritzl and his rape dungeon, so that he isn't the first thing the world thinks of when they hear "Austria?" ...well, second thing.
