All the hippie talk of automating everything goes out the window if you just pay your damn workers and treat them like a human being.
I get that you live in the middle of the desert so you probably have no idea what you're talking about, but this is not true. Farming is one of THE fields that drives technology in the US, believe it or not, but it depends on the crop. GPS-guided tractors, new combines every year, etc. are all front and center for the major crops like corn and soybeans. The main reason that we haven't developed sophisticated machines for harvesting high-maintenance crop machines for stuff like strawberries is because most of them are not staple crops (like corn and soybeans).

Case in point: cotton, the crop that the Civil War was fought over. An intensive crop that requires hand-picking due to how delicate it is. What did the cotton farmers do one slavery was illegal? They developed a combine to harvest it. Farming is one field that certainly is at risk of losing laborers to technology, but what's the downside? We lose slave labor that sends a chunk of their salary to a foreign (and potentially hostile) country?

Basically, the dilemma we face is either we pay double for luxury crops after deporting every wetback that worked for under minimum wage, or we innovate. Either way is a win.

Maybe there are other explanations for the points above, but to me it reads as Trump is serious about mass deportations and the elite class is losing their collective shit over it. If Trump wasn't serious then those people wouldn't do anything other than the typical performative outrage. Instead, they're throwing everything that can at Trump and anyone else that's aiding in his agenda.
Your arguments were strong and made me realise i may have sperged out a bit on trumps words.
