8-bit guy changes his appearance for a gag & reference, surprisingly he looks really good compared to usual look even with the fake getup

Still, pretty good vid.

Interesting video and always fun to think of "What if". But the issue isn't just the amount of ram. The big problem with the VIC20 was the super annoying memory map. There was no standard once you went past the factory +3k ram exp cart.

BASIC needed a contiguous section of memory to work. And when you added any ram the start location of BASIC changed and other things like the screen memory got shifted around to accommodate that. So you could have a situation where a ML program worked with the stock 5k of ram but adding any memory made it not run because memory locations changed. So even if you could afford to max out you system with 32k ram expansion you would still be fucking around turning on and off BLK's to match up your map to the way the program was written. And you could never use BLK5 for BASIC because there is stuff dumped in the middle making it non-contiguous.

Today we have things like the penultimate cart that lets you reconfig the map as needed from the boot menu but I could see how back in the day having to fuck with jumpers and dipswitches constantly made people dump the machine as soon as the C64 came out.

So what are they gonna do with it?

Sue everyone who uses the name in a way they don't like.

Also, I'm kinda over this ultra-zealous 80s computer nostalgia. It's cringe to talk about "keeping the dream of the C64/Atari/Spectrum alive" in fucking 2025. Like motherfucker, there are elected members of congress who weren't even alive when Commodore went bust.

I kinda get where you’re coming from, but I think homebrewing software is still fun and a good idea, however, the people “trying to keep it alive” in the sense of trying to chase the dream of daily driving a C64 like it’s the 80s do need to let go. Amiga people in particular seem to be possessed of this notion.

They're probably the worst about it tbh. There's so much blatant lying about how "ahead of its time" the Amiga was. "FIRST CONSUMER OS WITH PREEMPTIVE MULTITASKING GUI"

Except it had basically zero memory protection, poor support for threading, and its security model was an absolute joke. There's a reason why everyone who actually used an Amiga back in the day primarily used it for games - Workbench and AmigaOS was an absolute fucking mess architecturally.

But without fail, every video about older MacOS or Windows shit is filled with Amiga faggots crooning about how they had DA SAME THING IN 1985 WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN AEUGHAEUGHAUEGH

Fucking around with old software/hardware and trying to get stuff working on absolutely anemic machines is based. I'm just tired of the alt-hist copium for gen X losers that gets peddled so much in this scene.

You seriously didn't spot that this was a troon? This dude has been popping up in my recommends for years, and the only video I've ever clicked on was the one where he whined full of self pity for ages because searching on line for his name led to Google's auto-completion offering a thousand and one variants of "Is Fran Blanche a tranny" And I'm sure that back then his profile page on You Tube talked about his other hobby which was making corsets. All cleaned up now, so it seems.

My troondar totally dropped the ball on this one. Much shame. I thought it was just some quirky granny. I found his channel when I was looking for info on the discontinuing of most incandescent light bulbs. It's disappointing that it's just another tranny.
