It is a funny point people trying to defend a nuclear state denying other party having nukes.

In an ideal world the stance would/could be "just no one should have nukes" It is the unfortunate reality that we do not live in such an ideal world.

In light of that the best option one could hope for is "as few people should have nukes as possible and proliferation should be avoided"

As things stand with MAD and nuclear deterrence even a nation like Iran is not at risk of being nuked because even Israel who despises them knows places like Pakistan and Russia would not tolerate or sit idly by if they used it. So it's not a situation of "Iran needs nukes to defend themselves" the nuclear world is already all holding each other at proverbial gunpoint over it.

However Iran (and other nations) GETTING nukes increases the number of fingers on buttons around the world, and just statistically speaking the more people you add to that number, the more chances are you get someone who will just not give a fuck and take the shot. It's a roll of the dice even with the current number of states holding that power, but the future to strive for should not be "let's roll those dice even more times and see what happens"
