original Civ subjects lacking in the later vidya:
  • advisors appear with leaders and the number of them and their appearances can change
  • the "research complete" screen that changes to a computer room with modern tech
  • city views and characters representing the citizens that can change with tech
  • backgrounds of leaders* changes with government type and tech
  • little pics that go along with event message windows

* (they seem to either be talking in 3rd person about themselves or there are stunt double emissaries)

A very wat thing in the original Master of Orion is there are no specialized military ground forces -- to invade a planet, transport ship with population from colony is sent over, and they fight the entire population of that planet until one side is eliminated. So it seems that in MoO, alien invasions work like in old 1950s scifi. I guess that's because the developers did not want the game to keep track of mixed populations, so they just made up that there can't even be mixed populations. In Master of Orion 2, there can be mixed populations, and planetary invasion attempts may only involve the invading military force against a defending one (unless that attacking species is telepathic).

Hopefully, there won't be a next one.
I really want to pretend that Civ Vii was just a fluke and the next one might be good but you might be right.

Enjoy irrelevance Firaxis.

Guys hear me out. We can save Civ. We just need...More Niggers! Hear me out! Harriet Tubman is clearly the only reason people play Civ 7 at all, so lets give the audience what they want! Lets make every marginal nigger from history a wolrd leader! Crispus Attucks, Yasuke, that nigger from KCD2 that fucks your girl? Put them all in the game! All world leaders! All on the front cover! THIS is what gamers want! This is how we save Civ 7 and AAA gaming!!!

To add, I genuinely despise that in the Current Year of Our Lord 2025 the Sioux are always the default Plains Indian civ and not the Comanche (who were much more impressive and demented).

Effectively vassalizing a colony = Comanches
Beating back the entire Texan frontier 100 miles (I think) during the Civil War = Comanches
Largest sack of an American city (city may be exaggeration) by Indians = Comanches
Deep Hun-like penetration raids into the vicinity of Mexico City = Comanches
Sitting around hoya-hooing until they win a battle or two and then get wiped out = Sioux

I think much of it probably comes down to that the Sioux had a big set-piece battle. Although you likewise see the Shawnee and Friends get totally shafted too: Thousand Slain was an even more impressive battle than Little Bighorn (total destruction of a large American army, total temporary strategic victory as the Americans are basically cast back east for a decade or two).

Edit: Political leader going on to found a church (Native American Church/peyotism) that actually lasts = Comanches

Honestly, it was really nice to see the Cree / Poundmaker in the previous civ game. There is literally thousands of tribes in the Americas and many of them were known for more than just being menacing raiders.

It's kinda a shame that Cree leaders tard raged about being represented in a game about colonizing.

OK then 🤔

(640x480 is standard definition, at least to me.)

The AI is really dumb but that's par for the course in 4x games, of any age.
That ascend.exe AI is very limited (especially with colony management), even to other "4X" vidya of the time. That "antagonizer module" (antag.exe) fixed that, at least with colony management. Nowadays one can download the module from a number of places online, but back then one may have had to get it on a floppy disk or download it over dialup.

Lol there are youtubers that are still coping over this disaster.

"Civ VII can totally be saved with just another update you guys"

As a Victoria 3 fan I empathize with supporting an unpopular game with problems, but most of the civ supporters are just doing it for money or to "own the chuds". It all feels inauthentic.

Where is my aboriginal representation, Firaxis? Civ Vi gave us Aussies, but they were white. Do better.

Australia was the barb camp island...
