Which is to be expected since it was directed (or at least written)by the guy who made the RE movies, and of course is also the reason Milla Jovovich always stars as the main character (he's the director's wife). Seriously whose dick did he and/or his wife suck for Crapcom to let them make movies from their IPs? This guy made one massive bomb of a movie (2 mill budget, less than 50k back) and then suddenly he got a bunch of Capcom IPs (among other things) to make movies of:

Came across some weird spergings in the Monster Hunter community recently. A well known Monster Hunter youtuber named Jakob Dawson, known for Pikmin plushie videos and shitty Monster Hunter takes, is currently Streissanding himself on twitter by posting a google doc response to a couple of screenshots where he shows off a lolicon PS2 game and messages where he talks about how much he hates pajeets. He defended Plesioths shitty hitbox on his hipcheck and thought it was a good hitbox even though the attack is clearly not hitting the player, a three hour video about why Dos is the last "true" Monster Hunter game, an hour long video about how 4U is its own genre of game, and he hates World but loves Wilds for some reason are the big ones. He has a couple large videos if you have the patience to sit through them, but the commonality in all of them is that he takes a very long time and strawmanning to say some really inane shit that doesn't really add up. It's kinda like breadtube but for Monster Hunter where the speaker has had his brain melted by Sailor Moon and Evangelion.

That is a take I've never heard before as it is unanimously agreed upon that Plesioth's hipcheck is the most bs jank from the old games. It is so bad it became a meme. People watch this guy unironically?

The newer games hitboxes are vastly superior and I am a die heart Tri fan. If I could i'd give tri the updated hit boxes as Tri despite being the 3 generation still has issues with hit and hurt boxes.

I've gotten into Monster Hunter with Monster Hunter Now. I'm thinking about purchasing the other games on Steam.

Speaking of, does anyone else play Monster Hunter Now?

I had no idea what that was, but now that I've learned that it is a MH phone game I have to find my happy place as i'm never going to ever get a new MH game that i'll enjoy anymore.

You can emulate older MH on phones now why even bother playing a phone game most likely designed to kill your progress unless you put money into it. It also looks really bad and makes MHS's gameplay look intense.

In my experience, you can reach a high level without paying anything. Sure, there are some items that cost money, but you recieve a set amount of said items for free once per day. It also functions as a way for people who know nothing about Monster Hunter to learn the basic mechanics of the mainline games.

I would recommend either World or Rise, which is probably preference. I personally haven't gotten to try out Rise yet, but I think both should be going on sale before the end of the month with the summer sale. There's plenty of debate between the two, so I'd just pick the one that looks more fun. Wilds is ok, but unless you are planning on playing with people or have some FOMO I wouldn't get it. There isn't much content right now so you might as well check back once they make the first major dlc to see if things have changed. That's not including the other issues it has.

You can also go for one of the older ones if you are fine busting out an old console or emulator. But I don't think World or Rise are too bad if you would prefer not going through the trouble.

Well, that's one way to get into the series...do yourself a favor and emulate the older games like Hot Sauce said. Probably GU specifically. And then never touch the mobile game again. Or don't, up to you. I'll see if I can find/upload that zip that has everything you need but here some other goodies in the meantime. That being said, fitgirl has what you might need as well.

Oh yeah, aren't the mechanics similar to pre-4U MH? Would make sense given mobile games are more simple.

If you really got to go with the newer games, would recommend World with the expansion. Would also recommend the Community Edition mod of Iceborne but you should probably read into both Iceborne's mechanics and the CE's changes for obvious reasons. Most notable is reducing the over-reliance of the "clutch claw's" tenderizing mechanic, removes the "clagger:"
In Monster Hunter: World, "clagger" refers to the drooling stagger animation a monster displays after being hit, which allows players to clutch claw onto it for a prolonged damage window. It's also known as a claw stagger or a clawable stagger. The drooling stagger replaces the monster's normal flinch animation, providing a short window where players can clutch claw

And a variety of other shit. Shame Rise doesn't have anything like this, nor any of the cooler mods World has, or anything cool to begin with (alright maybe I'm being overdramatic) I really can't stand Rise as it feels like a blasphemous parody of my beloved older titles. But if you can get it and the expansion on sale, why not.

As someone who doesn’t currently have the capacity to play it, is Wilds ACTUALLY bad or is it just Steam losers and World newfags who don’t understand the series?

Disappointing. The game doesn't really have a whole lot of content at the moment and the content that IS there is extremely easy. There are a lot of ass backwards decisions like having an open world just to have it be instanced to single players. Multiplayer being a shitshow (as always since world), and the Sekiret which is a "Get Out of Federal Prison After Shooting Up A Nursing Home" card with how much it can let you get away with, the pack feature being extremely half baked with only like two or three monsters allowing for it to happen. You can obviously tell that the game was rushed out of the door AND was trying to casualize an already casualized series. Also the game runs like shit on PC and with every subsequent update the game runs worse.

I will say, the new monsters (minus one in the ice area i can't remember) are all solid. Cephalopods were a great addition as a monster type and they were fun to fight.
