Andrew Ruse was a huge part of what made World Peace so good, but we can't forget that MDE did a bunch of high quality shit before he was involved.

Here are a few examples of some great early cinematography and/or editing:

MDE has always been at its best with the trio fully at the helm. It may have some resemblance to other styles, but MDE has always been its own thing. I think the current crew just doesn't understand it enough to be given so much creative control, specifically Schultz.
The reason why we like Ruse is because the combo of MDE and Thanks Computer was like peanut butter and jelly. Perfect compliments, neither overriding the other in any way that reduced the quality of the finished product (unless you're a purist and think the camcorder years were peak, which is understandable). That just isn't the case anymore. Shultz' style isn't bad, it just eats through and covers up the understated humor of the MDE style. It's over the top in every way, and leaves no room for "interpretation", so to speak. There is no layering. You watch it once, and there's not much of a reason to watch it again. If you remember, Sam would criticize his own ideas nearly as sharply as whatever he was parodying in often nearly unnoticeable, crafty ways. It made re-watching a requirement, not an option.

My biggest question is how Sam doesn't see the issue. I know for a fact that he still knows and leans on his own style of humor based on his interactions on Fishtank. Part of the reason I love Fishtank is because it actually feels more like older MDE stuff every now and then.
Sam has to know that Schultz and the rest of the crew clearly do not understand the work they should be creating. I may understand it better, but I couldn't recreate it either.

Given MDE's cultural relevance, I think Sam owes it to his work to give it one more go, but this time with complete creative control split between him and Nick, with Chuck sharing in the dialogue. Shared Google docs, spitballing retarded ideas that only they think are funny, sharp editing. If his whole crew laughs at it, crumple it up, toss it, and try again.

tl;dr Sam needs to take full control and stop catering. The trio will always be very funny and talented, they don't need anyone else to have creative control or even input.

Quick question, sorry if it seems a bit dim or has been answered elsewhere:

Is the video just uploaded to youtube 'Extreme Peace EP01 - DODGE THIS [Exclusive Preview]' actually the full version of Episode 1? Or is it just highlights video of the show or season, featuring just an assortment of sketches from either the first show or season?

Just wanted to check before watching it, as the "Preview" part of the video title is a bit confusing. Thanks.

First episode was good. World Peace had sketches that either fell flat or hit perfectly and was carried by excellent production between. Extreme Peace feels the same but with a longer and therefore slower format. This works well when the point is to put amateur actors (homeless hopefuls) on the spot and focus on their inabilities. Or a seasoned actor that quits halfway through. If the rest of the episodes are of this caliber then I'll be happy, but I can see how it may not be to other peoples taste.

at first i was disappointed because it sort of has the visual format of world peace but lacks the pacing
i liked it better on a second watch, because its so much slower you get to actually pick out the individual details in each scene without having to rewind and pause 20 times. that combined with the intentional but painful cringe kinda reminds me of something by david lynch
there was almost no charls here tho, hope to see a lot more of him

The YouTube preview sets up a lot of the jokes, the full episode delivers the punch lines. For example you'll understand why Eric is just sort of hanging around behind all the contestants in the Dom Daddy sketch.

World Peace wasn't as good as OG youtube channel vids but the bump in production quality was a decent trade; Extreme Peace is on track to be slightly better than WP for being uninhibited by network execs, S&P, and the restricting runtime. The sketches/writing are about on par with WP though so not sure why people are complaining so much.

Lots of hate invading from Reddit here. When the guy in the Starbucks screamed nigger before the credits rolled if you didn’t stand and Roman salute the tv then you’re not true fan.

Bernstein has been gassed. The swastikas are hidden no longer. MDE is back. MDE never dies. Seig heil, shooters. Thank you based el mariachi. Antonio banderas for s3 when??

I caught the second half of episode 1 at a friend’s house last night and I liked what I saw. I’d say they still “got it” and I like seeing these dudes put their efforts into longer-form video stuff rather than content slop podcasts and Fishtank clip farming. As a long time fan the MDE Never Dies montage at the end got me kinda hype. I’ll continue watching, but I wager a couple episodes will be sleepers.
