Week 1 was pretty strong, only one bad day, the Jin elimination day, and even that day started good until Jin got booted which threw it off a cliff. There was another day that was pretty boring but besides that every day has been strong and had at least one really interesting thing happen, it blows S1's first week out of the water. We often forget how S1's novelty helped us through the boring parts so much. S4 doesn't have that advantage so they have to actually entertain and they've done a pretty good job of it so far, despite Jet. A lot of the time I got the vibe the fish are treating this like a frathouse to hang out in and not a competitive reality show, which has hurt the show as without stakes there's only so far "making content" can go. Last night seemed to turn that around though, we'll see how it goes moving forward. I think S4 week 1 stacks up favorably with S2's first week.
Competitors:
Aryeh: I find him pretty entertaining, he's a weird sperg, he's both very gullible but he can also kill content when he doesn't buy the bit, like when they printed out r/spongebob and he immediately declared it fake and that killed the bit. I think if he could control his autism enough to be a good sport when he senses a gaslight and still goes along with it he could be really funny. As is I still like him though. He's not winning.
Daniel: I would have been happy to see him go last night, I suppose he could turn it around and stop being a raped faggot but my hopes aren't high. I just think he's too retarded to naturally have an arc even with Angie gone now. He was good until Jin got eliminated and now he's too scawed to do anything. Da Waped needs to go.
Direnc: Easily the strongest competitor so far, she's not entertaining in the funny content generation sense that Aryeh or Freddy are but she's highly aggressive and competitive, and her performance in competitions and dominant nature produce the exciting competitive style of entertainment and make the challenges feel like there's stakes, which has until last night been my main complaint about the season so far. She can easily boss around the weaker minds and demonstrated great leadership skills leading the charge on Angie that did ultimately result in Angie being eliminated. She also has a short temper (she got it from her brother) which can be exploited for content. She's final 2 material.
Freddy: Freddy is content. Hopefully his brain isn't mush by the end though. Freddy is easily the most entertaining fish so far, everything he does is great. Jet did this whole "we're only casting fans you guys, normies suck" thing but Freddy is by his own admission not a fan, just a normie whose friends made him audition for the show and he only knew the basics of the show before going in, and it's not even close, he's the best. As long as he doesn't keep getting hurt and they can properly manage his alcoholism, Freddy is going the distance.
Ellie: Boring nontent. I find it funny that her and Seth (who I'll get to) were the last-minute replacements and they're easily the most boring fish. People will point to Ellie sneakily stealing candy but 1. hardly anybody noticed because of how she blends in (it should be sneaky enough the other fish don't notice but not so sneaky that the audience also misses it), and 2. it didn't even matter because Direnc won the most candy challenge anyway. Unlike Seth, at least Ellie is a pretty girl so she can farm simp bucks while doing nothing, but she's just taking up space. She needs to step it up quick, but she won't because she's an 18 year old girl and 18 year olds have no life experience. I can see Jet keeping her around because he wants to fuck her though.
Seth: I've shit on Megan from S2 for being boring but Seth has finally taken the crown. At least Megan peed in a cup that one time, Seth is so boring he doesn't even do that, he just blends into the background and might as well not be there. And that's how I can sum him up: if he had literally never been on the show nothing would change. Case in point: he put a trap outside B3 to slip up anyone who tried to take Angie's candy, but he was the only one who slipped in it, and most people didn't even notice it until after it had already happened. His presence changed nothing and if he hadn't been there it would make no difference to the Angie wape party. Seth is also the biggest MDE fan of the cast, yet he's the most boring. Huh. Weird!
Also, 5/6 of the competitors' first names start with one of the first 5 letters of the alphabet. Interesting.
Angie having all her shit stomped, mounting a last-minute bid to get her candy back, and Freddy being just slightly too late to help save her was a big moment and it felt for the first time this season like the show has stakes and it's a real competition. I hope they can keep the momentum up. All of the other associated candy craziness like Aryeh saying "I have a knife" not realizing how bad that sounds to everyone but him was entertainment icing on the competition cake.
