The administration is going to do whatever they feel they need to, like always. We went from "Israel can handle it" to Ted Cruz having diarrhea of the mouth-faucet and admitting the US has been assisting Israel in bombings. This led to even more bombings, except the US was willing to admit to them this time. At this rate, the cope by next weekend will be "Well it's only a few boots on the ground, it's only specialized teams!"
In a fucked up sort of way, public opinion back home is just another enemy the US military plans to fight. It's very easy to sway public opinion into not supporting military action overseas. It's also cheaper and more likely to succeed than a slugging match with a country that funds DARPA. Trump will absolutely shelve populism for a while and do whatever he thinks is best for Israel if he has reason to believe foreign groups are trying to undermine American military operations by pulling another Vietnam-style "War bad" campaign.
