Tracking down and sharing mondo obscure stuff from the past is worthwhile if they're genuinely neglected hidden gems, or something with a sense of history but yes, a lot of people in the "Lost Media" communities are often just celebrating obscurity for its own sake. Most of them will never find anything like pilots for good adult cartoon shows or animation in general, footage of actual controversial real life events,, entire films or TV series, or lost games that have been completed or were close to completion. You have some people who will devote and share considerable time, resources and effort into tracking down ephemera like two-second commercial bumpers, unsold Nick pilots nobody cared about or like a cartoon short about tooth care that showed up briefly in a promo on an Angry Beavers VHS from 1998.
I'm not gonna say that preschool shows aren't worth preserving, I just find it incredibly humorous that they're such frequent lynchpin items.
That's been Dora, Backyardigans, Sesame Street... I'm pretty sure that there's more examples.

It's because the lost media community is mostly unironic autistics. Plus side is they are extremely dedicated to finding shit, negative is it's all baby cartoons. A silent film thought to be lost forever is just a footnote when the Lithuanian dub of episode 7 of Fun With Numbers is unearthed.

Yeah we need the cinephile autists to get into the scene to balance out baby show enthusiasts. Autism is like lead paint--can be used for good or evil, only useful in small doses.

It's like the difference between train autists who develop a logistical method for optimizing train schedules and train autists who foam at the mouth, get on the tracks, annoy railroad employees, and get hit in the head with lanterns for being shitheads, like Len Shaner Jr.

So I watched the KPOP demon hunters movie and... wasn't too bad. I thought it was going to be overly kinetic to the point of making me sea-sick but the makers of it really had a good sense of pacing and framing. When to slow down and let scenes breathe and such. Heck they actually had some sincere moments in the film and it wasn't all bathos marvel quipping.

They even had the girls actually like boys in it. How refreshing!

I won't say it's one of the best animated movies ever (I'd still place Wild Robot over it just a bit) but it did feel like a member of the disney renaissance and shrek era dreamworks feel to it.

Do you guys think we're ever gonna get another Disney Renaissance? What's it gonna take? Blood sacrifice?

I would hate for the Disney Renaissance that everyone loved in the past to be referred to as "Disney's peak". The idea is disheartening.
Not literally but corporately. Iger and his crew are too entrenched in Disney. It will take a pretty messy overhaul of the corporation to cause another renaissance.

Especially when you go and watch old "making of" those films? The talent working on them had deep love of a wide variety of topics and history. Each person working on it was a renaissance person in their own right. What I fear is that nowadays a lot of the staff being churned out of the training centers aren't like that. The modern man seems to avoid being a renaissance man as much as possible (because the renaissance was an "-ist" of some kind don't you know). Plus the smartphone and things like reddit and wikipedia give kids nowadays the illusion of knowledge. "I don't need to actually 'know' things, I can just look it up" - works on some things, but when you're trying to create art, you need a deep well of learning and understanding to draw from in order to bring a richness to the art.

It's the difference between the older cartoons and modern ones. The modern ones make reference of culture, the older ones seemed like they actually understood culture.

Why a film like this was made...

Oh god.

My honest reaction after wasting a minute and ten seconds of my life watching that.

Just watch the 1954 animated adaptation. Or read the damn book.
>Seth Rogan
>Kiddy humor for an George Orwell adaptation
>Uninteresting aesthetic/artstyle
>Andy Serkis as the director
>Director of: Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle and apparently some Lord of The Rings flick about Gollum coming up in 2 years
Yep, definitely going to skip this. I'll read the novel and watch the 50's film when this comes out.

In some new Lost Media News, someone apparently found the Long Lost pilot of Backyardigans, and even shared some screenshots of it.

They were planning on uploading it, until someone (Presumably from the Backyardigans Wiki) allegedly threatened to dox them, so they're unable to fully release the pilot.

So how autistic do you have to be to gatekeep a pilot for a damn show made for literal toddlers so hard that you threaten to release someone's personal info over it... apparently very...

They already uploaded it
In case people here don't know the context:
To summarize:
  • The Backyardigans pilot, me and my friends, was actually available to a private circle of people (The Backyardigans Wiki Admins) since 2016
  • When LSuperSonicQ and his fans were attempting to find any leads for the pilot, the wiki jannies send out their top secret agents on Discord in order to throw them off the trail and sabotage their search
  • They did this for literal YEARS :stress:
  • They threatened to dox and harass people who wanted to come out with the information about the pilot publicly
These people are fucking insane

You think it's time for a Lost Media Autism thread to go alongside the Video Game Archival Autism thread?

But why? Did they just covet having exclusive access to it or something?
Having exclusive access to the pilot of their favourite kids ' show gives them an immense amount of ego and pride. The same thing happens in the rap music industry; there is an entire community of keeping certain unreleased songs to themselves and then bragging about being the only ones able to listen to them. It's kind of like "I'm the only TRUE fan, I've listened and watched all the exclusives and unreleased tapes" kind of stuff
