One thing that drove me crazy about a lot of responses to the Content Cop was that they gave way too much credence to IdBS' argument that Ethan was being transactional for expecting Ian to say something about the CPS call. No, that isn't transactional, he expects his so-called friend to do something that most decent people would do for ab absolute stranger. Even h3's old enemies were willing to condemn the CPS call, it's such a simple thing and basic decency.

It reminds me of a toxic "friend" who I once cut off...

I didn't mind helping him every now and then and I never expected anything from him in return. Then I asked him to do something for me, call me if he came to my house instead of letting himself in through the backyard. He didn't have to do this because I gave him rides or paid for his lunch every now and then, he should have done this because it's common courtesy. But the fact that I was willing to do so much for him without complaint and he would throw a tantrum because I asked him to do the most basic thing in the world just made me realize that this was not a friend.

As much as I hated that experience, it was mostly irritating (except when he would do it while I was sleeping). But the betrayal of Ian not being willing to condemn snark trying to steal his children is a whole other level, I would have killed him.
