The cycle can't last forever, I don't know if it will happen in my time or not but there is only so much land in the United States to go around. Individuals move to states with a cheaper housing market who then can afford to pay higher prices for houses the locals can't, the people who lived in the place all their lives have to accept potentially worse housing or move somewhere with cheaper options. This doesn't even factor in the effect of immigration of both the legal and illegal variety or the voting habits of the people coming in from out of state. Such a situation doesn't seem sustainable in the long term.

West Germany let in a lot of foreign workers to help with labor shortages in the 1960s and has been feeling the effects ever since. East Germany had a similar program but was more adamant on them staying temporarily and not bringing family members in.
