Mikayla Raines, founder of the popular animal rescue organization Save A Fox and a well-known YouTuber, has died by suicide, her husband Ethan Raines confirmed in a heartbreaking video uploaded to the Save A Fox YouTube channel on June 23, 2025.

Mikayla, who was known for her tireless work rescuing and caring for foxes and other exotic animals, had been battling severe mental health conditions including depression, autism, and borderline personality disorder. According to Ethan, despite years of therapy and various medications, she continued to struggle with daily life and emotional regulation.
In his emotional 11-minute statement, Ethan revealed that Mikayla had been the target of a prolonged online harassment campaign. The abuse reportedly came not only from strangers but also from individuals within her personal life and others in the animal rescue community.

“They spread false rumors, and being the sensitive person she was, it deeply affected her,” Ethan said. “She tried for years to push through the pain, but this time it was too much.”

Mikayla is survived by Ethan, their daughter Freya, and the many animals she cared for at Save A Fox’s Minnesota and Florida locations. Ethan has vowed to continue her legacy and the mission of the rescue.

Fans and fellow animal lovers expressed shock and sorrow online, paying tribute to Mikayla’s impact on the rescue community.

On the matter at hand. I have nothing that I can say that defends the OnlyFans thing, never knew and wish I didn't. I know I initially said in the RIP Thread when this was fresh, that I summarized Mikayla as honest and good-willed. Maybe there was a point in her life where there was a stretch where that might've been true, but when she has an OnlyFans, that only blurs the line badly. Especially when the animals are involved, even if it wasn't her intent, the internet will run with whatever assumption that crosses their mind the moment they see a combination of things like this.

On the other hand, animal hoarders are in a realm of continual damage control. A lot of them start out honest with a great cause to achieve, but it can be mishandled before they know it and I don't think it really has pinched Mikayla or her husband as to the scope of that. Especially when there are animal control activists, PETA, animal shelters .etc all colliding to create this war of who is the moral superior that speaks on the sides of animals. It's a very fucked up situation to even tap into and observe.

Farmers are one thing, they know how to handle their animals and know their purpose probably better than anyone. I would rather them handle animals than just one random person or couple to try it but with different breeds of animals that, you have to admit, just aren't cut out to be domesticated. The best you can do for animals you want to care for is to treat them, heal them and send them back to the wild when they're ready. Not like, have 500 of a type of animal that you will not ever know what to do with. And if shutting down fur farms is the goal, then I'd like to think that there are other ways than conflicting your cause with an "I'M A HOARDER!" environment.

I still believe Mikayla didn't deserve what happened to her but, should've controlled her intentions when it comes to the internet better than just letting it get to her.

Thank you for your thorough and thoughtful post @Bani . Its so important to be transparent and honestly im tired of the "Speaking ill of the dead". I believe she did this to probably escape having to deal with the criticism and consequences of being so careless with such difficult exotic animals. BPD women and rescuing things should never go hand in hand. It is always a mess and always goes wrong. Cant even rescue themselves, why do they put these poor animals through it for their ego, its very sad.

That poor fox with the enlarged gum palate/overall FUBAR systemic issues just looked utterly miserable and in agony. Reddit is a fucking stain on humanity, it needs to be destroyed. I was familiar with the Save A Fox channel but i had no idea there was a fucking snark subreddit for it. Why does everything have to be subject to unfunny "snarky" discussion and bullying? You can't have a harmless animal support channel without faggots immediately latching onto it just to hate for fun.

That said, i think killing yourself over comments made by dysgenic redditor tards on the internet is definitely extreme and no normal person would have done it, so i believe she was probably already mentally unstable and the full truth has not yet come to light.
