This might be unpopular here but NYC in the 70s, 80s, and 90s pre-9/11 was much better to live in compared to NYC now. Yes it was grimy, but most people enjoyed themselves, and the city still has close-knit communities, even on Manhattan Island. For as much as people say it was a nightmare, ask anyone from that era who lived and grew up in the city and they would say that era of the city was better than now. What culture does NYC have aside from anti-social browns doing stupid brown people shit saying thats real NYC culture and what real New Yorkers do.

The massive demographic changes have led to the stereotypes of NYC leaving as well. No more Italian Brooklynites anymore. This isn't even a white thing. Bloomberg was the last one, and under his rule the city's demographics really started to shift and even more so under De Blasio and Adams

Tbf I'm sure people in the 1920s were lamenting about how the city isn't a WASP/Dutch/German/Scandinavian bastion anymore due to all the Irish, Italians and Jews or how people in the 1970s were lamenting about how much niggers and Puerto Ricans there were. Hell you could go back to the 1850s and see the WASPs crying about all the recent Irish immigrants. New York has a long history of harboring a lot of foreigners, the main difference now is that we have to contend with third world scum instead of merely Whites who came from a different part of Europe.

I remember seeing New Yorkers talk about how NYC was more authentic and "alive." As for me, I'd go to New York in ~00's-mid~10's to see parts like the museums and neighborhoods. The last times we went, cracks were starting to show. Now? Given all the fucked up shit going on there, it's not worth seeing anymore. NYC really is like that cultured uncle who relapsed into his heroin addiction.
