Not Just Bikes / r/fuckcars / Urbanists / New Urbanism / Car-Free / Anti-Car - People and grifters who hate personal transport, freedom, cars, roads, suburbs, and are obsessed with city planning and urban design

As much as I enjoy the optimism in videos like this ("Oh there are plans to save Gary!"):
Urbanists still dance around the issue that some cities are unfixable without changing the demographics. There is no magic dirt/urbanism, you cannot simply plop down classical architecture and expect the entire city to suddenly become a good place to live.

Talking about the decline of blue-collar manufacturing is definitely one reason why Gary fell as hard as it did, but you can't really build manufacturing up like overnight (and urbanists mock people like Trump for trying). The riots are important part of why Gary died as well, even today, blacks will still claim they did nothing wrong when it came to riots and anyone moving out (whites, anyone with economic stability, etc.) was the problem.

Places like Gary are a stark reminder that vacant lots aren't the cause of freeways, it's just people leaving and abandoned buildings getting torn down or burned. The issue with places like Gary and the expansion of suburbs is that there's no accounting for leadership. Europe never had the corrupt political machines that made cities suck and no one want to live there.

So unless you get some extraordinary scenario where the existing government of Gary is functionally abolished and replaced with a system that roots out every problem that prevents people from wanting to live there, nothing will really change.

For cities like Gary, I think the best thing to do is let them rot as some containment area. Unless like you said, the state or federal government intervenes and goes all in on cleaning out the problems, it's not going to change much. The 1967 Long Hot Summer and 1968 MLK riots are an interesting thing to read, and many people don't address them as a way cities declined.

Someone on reddit has figured out why urbanists are being promoted:

What makes the Dutch so crucial in China's chip scheme as opposed to... France, or Canada, or Germany?

More likely that these dorks are just signal-boosting each other and their ideas fit in with the current shitlib zeitgeist.

The company that makes the equipment used to make chips (ASML) is Dutch.

It’s a joke.

I've found that a lot of people DO address them - with the dishonest framing that upper-class whites fled from those cities for reasons completely unrelated to riots in the street and their downtowns being burned, and that any fear they had that they might be killed was just because they couldn't recognize an overdue racial reckoning for what it was......

Jason himself has said White people live in suburbs because they hate Blacks. What part of the Netherlands does he live in again?

I usually found some people tip-toe and hint around it instead of directly. My great uncle talks about it directly because he remembers it happening, and since he's in his early eighties he doesn't really give a fuck about his opinion. I have heard about the dishonest framing though, and it always confused me.

Another case of the "Rules for thee, and not for me" that Jason lives by.

Its the same reason Jason hasn't travel to India and taken the most crowded regular fare train (that's not to some tech / high skill work sector).

Just like White race hustler Tim Wise:

The fears the plantation class had near the beginning of the civil war was completely justified. They really were the bulwark against the avalanche of negroid rage to come.

The problem with the white flight is two-fold, first off, the fact that they left only after the riots would seem to indicate that white people were not naturally racist, just when blacks (at least the urban blacks) showed their true nature, secondly it doesn't make blacks look better because the narrative itself inadvertently puts whites as the ones that provide safety, community, and economic benefits to a region. Whether that's actually true or not is irrelevant, but that IS the white flight narrative.

I have gone my whole life without seeing anyone run a red light with a car.
I have never gone more than a few months without seeing a bicyclist run a red light.
Every time in memory where I was at a red light and a cyclist was there he ran it, stop signs too.

If these guys are so quick to disregard safety and courtesy on the road to each other and pedestrians, ignoring their treatment of vehicles, when they are under scrutiny then I do not want to see how they act in a world where they get whatever they want.

You must live far away from any BMW dealership then I see them run red lights constantly.

But I get your point. The worst kind is the shrödingers cyclists that’s both a vehicle on the road or a pedestrian and switches between those states as needed. I almost nicked my car (and probably would have killed the guy) once when as I was standing on a crossroads and a cyclist drove between the car on the left and me only to take a sharp right to turn onto the bike lane.

Those people have a death wish.

Off topic-ish but funny to me at least.
My youngest loves the trash Hot Wheels Let's Race show. I just noticed the bad guy is a bike nut when I heard him say that he wanted to destroy Hot Wheels city, and I looked up to see he's wearing a bike helmet. I did a search for a photo to post here but found a year-old /fuckcars post instead:

It looks like cheap CG kids' show slop but someone's heart was in the right place.

I was thinking that the post was coping by rooting for the antagonist but re-reading it I'm not sure they understand what's going on. A four-year-old can identify him as the "bad guy" but apparently their brains are so rotted out they don't see that, and this proves it.

Oh my god is it. We're chasing it with old nature documentaries to undo the retardation.

But I do find it funny that someone obviously was having a laugh behind the scenes with that character. I follow the SJW cartoon thread and the whole animator scene seems pretty woke, and the Hot Wheels cartoon seems like no acception with its characters. So it was pretty fun to see that show up!

Seeing the absolute barefaced bullshit they came out with about what was happening in 2020, as it was happening, had the side effect of making me far more skeptical of anything they claim about the 1960s.

It's funny that they didn't use this as an example of car brain indoctrination as they usually do.

But holy shit lol. The premise of this show is great. A curmudgeon car hating academic boomer is the villain:story:

And in usual urbanist fashion here's Rearview driving a car... Despite supposedly being against cars... Hmm maybe this show is more accurate than we thought. Do you think he just wants roads to be cleared so that he can enjoy HIS cars without those other pesky kids on the road.

In some ways I can sort of see it where people enjoy a character that the creator doesn't intend for people to like. I like Rorschach despite Alan Moore probably not intending for him to be a character people root for. You also see it from time to time where the author so insufferable that by comparison the character they're trying to paint in a negative light seems better by comparison, for example the New Guy comic.

Yeah, you do find from time to time someone in animation can break from the mould a little bit, like with the creators of Sonic Boom being self aware Sonic fans. Or it could be a coincidence that the animators were trying to think of a villain who would dislike cars, so the first thing that came to mind was a bike riding academic.

I know you as an adult probably don't actually pay attention to the plot of a kids show, but is it ever actually explained why exactly he dislikes cars in the show or what his motivation is? I tried looking it up on Wikipedia but the synopsis just says:
  • Eric Bauza as Professor Rearview, a car-hating old man who seeks to destroy Hot Wheels City with giant animals solely due to his hatred of its heavy car culture. He used to be a camp racer.
I assume they probably don't go into it much besides he's a kid hating old man similar to Gargamel to the Smurfs or Eggman to Sonic.

Seems like unlike something like Bluey (which is both popular in degenerate circles and is heavily merchandised), this seems like something one would be unlikely to come across unless they had children who watched television, which is not the /r/fuckcars demographic.

I can see /r/fuckcars sympathizing with the antagonist but that's totally not what the OP put or what the thread was about.
