Funny thing about that. Tesla doesn't use LiDAR because at the time the Model S was being developed a LiDAR unit was (like) a billion dollars, and Musk wanted every Tesla to be back-compatible with whatever solution they came up with for self-driving.

It's not like he doesn't like LiDAR - the docking system Dragon uses depends on it, and the first example flew into space on STS-133 as part of COTS/CRS. But he completely failed to predict it would fall in price almost overnight and has pidgeonholed Tesla into avoiding it at all costs. End result is everyone who started developing self-driving tech slightly later has fully embraced it and put out a much better product than the automated CAPTCHA machine that is a Tesla.

And they're supposed to magically invent general AI with this technology and use it in androids to build a Mars base next year. I wish I was kidding. But yet another example of Musk's special interests fucking everything up from what should have been an easy win.

nuclear is the only renewable that is reliable enough for running a nation

everything except nuclear (and maybe geothermal) needs a fuckton of energy storage we don't have yet, cuz u can't produce it on-demand, i doubt the chinese have enough energy storage to supply their power grid at night if they switch to solar)

but geothermal can't be built anywhere u actuslly need it to be

so nuclear is the most practical and reliable of the renewable options
