Vietnam trade deal announced.

Edit: I'm a retard and can't upload an image or archive where I am atm. Text below.
It is my Great Honor to announce that I have just made a Trade Deal with the Socialist Republic of Vietnam after speaking with To Lam, the Highly Respected General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam. It will be a Great Deal of Cooperation between our two Countries. The Terms are that Vietnam will pay the United States a 20% Tariff on any and all goods sent into our Territory, and a 40% Tariff on any Transshipping. In return, Vietnam will do something that they have never done before, give the United States of America TOTAL ACCESS to their Markets for Trade. In other words, they will “OPEN THEIR MARKET TO THE UNITED STATES,” meaning that, we will be able to sell our product into Vietnam at ZERO Tariff. It is my opinion that the SUV or, as it is sometimes referred to, Large Engine Vehicle, which does so well in the United States, will be a wonderful addition to the various product lines within Vietnam. Dealing with General Secretary To Lam, which I did personally, was an absolute pleasure. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

The fact that you cannot discharge student loans is absolutely fucked.
Well yes, but how do you repossess $500,000 in student loan debt?

More importantly, why are these colleges allowed to set the prices? It should be like any other Government grant, i.e., medicaid/medicare/whatnot: The government should declare how much a given degree is worth, and the college can either choose to accept student loans and agree to charge that much, or reject student loans entirely and charge whatever they want. They'd lose their SHIT over that becuase administration fees have increased what, 1500% in the past decade or two? All because of guaranteed loans that can't be discharged + the fact that EVERYONE needs a degree because we're not allowed to test for competency (because niggers and women are stupid and fail and the only reason that can happen is racism and sexism). To say nothing about Student Loan fraud (which is rampant).

While we're at it, why are we giving this money to students? Students are fucking idiots thanks to College being effectively a day care for young adults to waste their most fertile years. They piss away the money on shit like "oh I need a car and a fancy apartment, I can't live in the dorms." The money should go into a grant and be paid directly to the colleges for specific agreed upon bills, the students themselves should never see any of it.

Outside of places like Manhattan, dorms are a rip off that charge more than it would cost to get a private studio apartment for a tiny shared bedroom with no kitchen or bathroom.

Not if the schools want to get student loan money -- make them adhere to section 8 housing limits for how much they can charge the government for the dorms.

You see, there's no real auditing to student loans. So as long as you maintain the minimum class requirement to be classified as a student, it doesn't really matter what you do with the rest of the money
Slight powerlevel but as someone who works in higher ed this is largely correct. There is virtually no auditing being done outside of "Well is the student enrolled?". Most schools will push through anything as long as it does not break fed regs, because there is simply no incentive on either side to call foul. The schools can charge whatever because they know students can get insane loans at virtually no risk. Its a dumb system

How in the world did he get them to agree to this??? Yeah he probably left some details out.
It seems so one-sided to be a detriment. Maybe a ton of shit that was previously very expensive to the Vietnamese might become affordable now, but it seems just as likely to undercut the Vietnamese themselves whilst also making it far harder to export into their primary sales market. Yeah, some details had to have been left out. Like, I'm pretty sure the China tariffs have electronics as an exclusion on them, something to that affect - gotta be.

So, what about people who go to community college first, get their A.A, then go to a university? those tend to not flunk out as much vs someone who goes to a 4 year right off the bat. Also, Pell grants already cover trade schools as well as colleges and universities.
That’d probably be fine. We just need some way of filtering out the people who are without a doubt not going to finish college so they don’t waste taxpayer dollars. My idea isn’t meant to be punitive it’s really just meant be a filter

I quite like the idea, at face value at least, of schools themselves handling the loan systems. If the school itself is the one lending the money and dealing with repayment and such, they have a incentive to keep costs lower, so the loans they give are smaller.
Probably a bunch of issues with this, but it seems better again at face value than my tax dollars going to random bullshit degrees.

The school I work at does short term in house loans. It really forces our admin to look at costs more, so its better than nothing

Click on the "bankruptcy" link under the list of ways to discharge student loan debt.

Thank you. It looks like the bankruptcy only applies to FAFSA. If you have a loan from a private bank, I assume you are still fucked.
If there's no government guarantee, there's no loan program. It's been abolished.
Funny how that works. It's almost like the government shouldn't put itself in a position to bail out banks handing out risky loans.

The Democrats trotted out AOC to condemn Trump's OBBB:

View attachment 7588960
Democrats spend all their years in power doing absolutely nothing to improve the lives of Americans. Republicans get voted in with a mandate to do something, and Democrats scream that they are ruining the country.

Also, she asks if getting more money personally is worth losing health care potentially. For most people if the choice is between food for their kids or healthcare, they will pick the food for their kids.

Isn't it difficult to get rid of American debt on a conceptual level because so many people have financial interests tied to America having its debt because so long as the ceiling is increased, it's a safe investment with ever-returning yields, but paying it off effectively decreases the value of the bond through lowering its overall yields?
