Outside of places like Manhattan, dorms are a rip off that charge more than it would cost to get a private studio apartment for a tiny shared bedroom with no kitchen or bathroom.
Not if the schools want to get student loan money -- make them adhere to section 8 housing limits for how much they can charge the government for the dorms.

Slight powerlevel but as someone who works in higher ed this is largely correct. There is virtually no auditing being done outside of "Well is the student enrolled?". Most schools will push through anything as long as it does not break fed regs, because there is simply no incentive on either side to call foul. The schools can charge whatever because they know students can get insane loans at virtually no risk. Its a dumb system
It seems so one-sided to be a detriment. Maybe a ton of shit that was previously very expensive to the Vietnamese might become affordable now, but it seems just as likely to undercut the Vietnamese themselves whilst also making it far harder to export into their primary sales market. Yeah, some details had to have been left out. Like, I'm pretty sure the China tariffs have electronics as an exclusion on them, something to that affect - gotta be.
That’d probably be fine. We just need some way of filtering out the people who are without a doubt not going to finish college so they don’t waste taxpayer dollars. My idea isn’t meant to be punitive it’s really just meant be a filter

Democrats spend all their years in power doing absolutely nothing to improve the lives of Americans. Republicans get voted in with a mandate to do something, and Democrats scream that they are ruining the country.
Getting rid of debt under our current monetary policy framework is never going to happen anyhow. And there is no political will on either side to actually fix the issues causing unnecessary debt. It's kinda unfixable in our current political system, so its kinda w/e yano
