UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

It's really fucking funny how Rachel Reeves having a woman moment is probably going to result in her keeping her job. Sure she was probably part of the rebellion there to oust Starmer so she could be PM but she cried so Starmer is going to look like a monster for getting rid of her. Such a bizarre strategy that's going to pay off because she tried it against such a spineless faggot, even though it makes her look like a shameless piece of shit incapable of doing anything at a higher level.

She went from being sacked in the morning to now probably staying in charge until Starmer is gone. So a whole extra month in charge

The recess cannot come quickly enough for Starmer.

Then we have Conference Season (if it's not cancelled) and then the budget which every decent financial expert who's actually at least read the Financial Times at least once in their lives says will be the death knell of us.

It's a toss up (ooeerr) as to which of the odious scroats gets potted first.

Rupert Lowe ought to start crying in Parliament. Maybe we'll see a sudden drop in immigration numbers like we saw a drop in the pound.

Have you considered throwing a bunch of tea into London harbor in protest at this unjust taxation? Its what we Americans did and I'd say it worked out great for us in the end since we traded horribly unjust rule for only somewhat unjust rule.
It didn't stop the creation of the Federal Reserve or the passage of the Sixteenth Amendment.

I must confess: I once voted Green party in a local election because the chap representing them knocked on my door. He said if he won by one vote he'd buy me a pint so I did. Still went Labour anyway, as expected, but still. It appears a significant chunk of Green party voters went Reform for whatever reason. Regardless, the swing from Labour is massive. The Conservative's relative stability is rather intriguing though. But yeah, Gaz and the North are doing a nice swing. I wonder if this'll be a sign of things to come in the next GE regarding this area.

Edit: I forgot this was ever a thing (vaguely remember hearing about it), had no idea about the whole "Co-Operative Party" in general.

It doesn't really mean anything anymore, Co-Operative used to be a sort of "we're not socialists!"-socialist section of the big tent, as a hold-over from when the Labour Party was an actual mass movement with diversity of opinion and was an important niche to cover, the movement has an interesting history and some good takes on worker owned businesses (all completely non viable in a low trust society which is why it's a dodo)
The Clause IV rewriting completely negated the point of it, it's just another pointless pronoun now.

The wops apparently.
More like Africa.

If there's any Yank you shouldn't be trying to one-up on history its this one.
They had a repeat of history as not too long after independence violently trying to suppress a revolt over taxes caused by the funding of a fairly expensive war (Whiskey rebellion).
The irony does not escape me but considering it wound up being more of a mostly peaceful protest than a rebellion or revolt complete with federal pardons for the sole two convicted of treason, and with tax collection that was spotty at best afterwards, I'd say the rebels won in the end.

Look, I know better than to "set someone the challenge" , especially on this site. But I've been around online long enough to be fairly sensible. As in, I'll just change details like place names randomly every now and then, and be generally inconsistent about my age and other personal details. Change my language and spelling and so on. Hopefully it wouldn't be as easy as you think.
Be careful if you do that, some no-life basement-dwelling shut-in faggot will comb through your posts to prove that you're lying, aka, practising good opsec, because he's mad that you live a better life and they're in an autistic wikiposting faggot.

You retards need to work on your operational security, it's not hard to work out roughly where you're from when you're exposing yourself. We need more people like you to vote and keep the fight against pakis and trannies going.

That is interesting. Whilst both have been used as protest parties, the parties themselves are very adversarial in their policies. A lot of Green Party voters are women, often more mature ones. I wonder how many have been turned off by the Green Party's determinedly Transwomen are Women stance and its pro-immigration stance ("all migrants are treated as citizens in waiting").

These Activist groups are too easy to clock, my predictions:
Amy Gardiner-Gibson, 29, of no fixed abode - Ex-University Student, burnt out BPD whore. (living in an "anarchist" squat)
Jony Cink, 24, of no fixed abode - Ex-Uni student originally from Turkey (living in an "anarchist" squat)
Daniel Jeronymides-Norie, 35, of London - Very well educated business owner that became "enlightened" aka Mid Life Crisis that made him make/join in a leadership role at the activist group, doesn't get his hands dirty just gets some younger people to do it for him.
Lewie Chiaramello, 22, of London - Some random Uni student white hippie type

I actually live in Alabama, I’m just practising good opsec. Don’t worry.
I wonder what she was crying about. Those were deeeeep eye bags. Looks like the media has the knives out. But none of that will make things better, it doesn’t matter if they run starmer and Rachel from customer services out on a rail tomorrow. A change of puppet at the top means little. Labour will still be in power. We get a GE and someone else gets in? Maybe but ffs I have no faith in any of them. The board needs to be swept clean and we need to sort a lot of very unpleasant and difficult issues out and that’s Act Of God level changes needed.
We are fighting against principalities and rulers of the dark places here.
At least the rain’s stopped. Why has it been so windy this year, I feel like there’s been a gale blowing for months. Is that a jet stream position thing?

Thank you for this absolute kino. Watching this while eating my cornflakes and I'm snorting milk out of my nose here. I'll be sharing this video far and wide.

I cant believe this is the same team that I was watching last night with the commentators hyping up how great Switzerland women are and how the host nations are one of the favourites to win the whole tournament.

Fair play to the Lucerne lads for not gloating, even though some of those goals were truly, truly embarrassing. Just got their heads down and tramped back to their own half, sometimes with a little golf clap.

As far as I know, women's national teams regularly train by playing against these school boy teams, as there aren't enough women's teams at women's elite level to practice against. The boys teams are roughly the same level as women's national levels, usually their games are relatively equally matched with the women winning roughly half and losses are usually more balanced, like 2-1, rather than total annihilation. But occasionally a boys team will be on excellent form (especially f they have a future male star) or the women's will be having a terrible night, and there is a huge defeat like this one, and that's when it gets shared everywhere.

I’m not a fan of women’s football but I think this is a side effect of this weird ‘everyone’s equal’ stuff.
Sport is fun and beneficial as it is. Football is played at playground level, fat dad pub team level, all the way up to the premier league and world level. Everyone should be able to play, even if they’re not great. They should play against their peers.
I think that goes for any sport or pastime. I have a couple of things I enjoy doing and I’m crap at them, if you ranked me against the world best, and ok if you ranked me against my peers.
Nobody ever had an issue with this up until recently. The idea that you’d play a pub team against Man City and expect them to do well would be seen as a bit cruel. Women’s leagues ditto. Women are only able to achieve that kind of parity with men in a very few things like long distance swimming.
I just find it curious, it’s the natural extension I suppose of this ‘there is no difference between us’ mentality that’s been pushed. When you see stuff like this you see just how big the gap is. And you see how much that idea has been pushed at us all. Was this the vanguard for the tranny stuff, I wonder? Softening people up for the Troon invasion?

Amy was director of a peasant farming cooperative until last week, when Company House records show that she resigned. Also her website vanished.

Jony was charged with obstruction last year after being arrested trying to stop asylum seekers being transported to the Bibby Stockholm.

Didn't the Swiss Governong Body try to keep this result quiet? Think the silence was broken by one of the boys that beat them.
