Even if there is botting, the votes are rolling in at an extreme pace. If the botted votes are 1379 per hour, that's around 33 000 botted votes a day.
Admittedly this number is pulled entirely out of my ass (absolutely insane behaviour dude), but that still makes the margin of error much smaller than we might have suspected. Around 10%, accounting for today and yesterday, and assuming the potential botting will continue. This means that, should the votes keep rolling in, we still have a good chance of making it.
Welcome to the finding out timeline.
I'm gonna be a lot more optimistic than you. The few nations that don't require IDs for petitions don't have bloated per capita numbers. And I doubt anyone is running anything sophisticated enough to get past ID requirements. You would see Finland with like 100,000 if that was the case and Luxemburg past threshold.
The numbers make sense when you think about English literacy and concerted hobby level efforts.

The people who have claimed to provide a fake ID number haven't actually provided any proof either. Probably just talking shit.

This is going to end up being months if not years of people talking to politicians, including industry shills that will be presenting talking points that will sound logical to a lay person that will need to thoughtfully be deconstructed.
Exactly. I'm already planning to activate my network of rarefied SaaS-hating free software autists, for the case that it actually gets on the debate floor.

According to Xitter user "the_patch_dev" (and kind of Thor himself), Thor's Discord may be running a campaign to sabotage the EU signatures.

"You shouldn't have called out those people so we banned you and ignored what they were doing."

Mald you are the biggest faggot on planet Earth. The only way we can find bigger faggots is to look for them outside our solar system.

ross btfo's rossman, which is an odd thing to happen since you'd think rossman would just support the initiative
And he does. He didn't go about it the best way, but his main points are absolutely correct.

Getting 1 million signatures is just the start. After that. Ross' team will have to debate the issue with the EU parliament, and they will have to negotiate this with corporations who want to have the right to kill games whenever they please.

Louis mentioned that whenever he wasn't present to argue his points, corporations would help pass laws against the right to repair, and the same can happen here. The issue being discussed is that games are shut off without a way to play them and without a previous warning. Imagine that, instead of forcing devs to make the game playable, the EU parliament decides that companies should announce end of service at least a year in advance. That would be a previous warning, that would be enough in theirs and the companies' eyes, but it would be a complete failure for the movement.

Like it or not, Ross made himself the face of this movement, and now he needs to go all the way.

I doubt the EU will ask each country to run an in depth verification of a large percentage of signatures. They will check samples for mass botting and fraud, and if there is no glaring issue there they won't bother.

The higher above the threshold the signatures get, the less they will give enough of a fuck to spend resources on that verification

Also god DAMN, people talk about the gaming culture in South Korea, but clearly it's the Finns who have the greatest goon caves.

In the face of this, I can't help but imagine everyone on the street, from babies to grandmothers to cute little Finnish Spitzes being the ultimate gamers. Even hiking through the wilderness to your log cabin, you need to keep an emergency Switch 2 with your rations.

I cant imagine they do all of that manually
Theres probably some sort of algorithm to check these
They will probably send a request to each country and wait till they give a respose. So add an extra month of waiting

Finland has pretty small population, slightly above 5mil iirc, and A LOT of them are 4channers.
Like seriously back in the day when i was hanging around in /int/ there were so many finns, completely disproportional to their population

It probably helps that every other finnish person is a gamedev.
At least it feels that way with the amount of indie kino they produce.

No. All they will do is for ID nations check that the name matches the ID code. Which is done automatically. While for non ID nations they check that the name matches a valid address and maybe escalating it to checking if the address given is a known address of that person. It's not hard.
The way to fake it is to know the names and addresses of people, which is possible IDs do get stolen but that would require getting the local authorities involved and asking people directly to confirm each vote, which won't happen. So you would need to get the names and last known legal addresses of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of people to fuck with the petition. Who has the time and resources for that. Also you would need to diversify the sources. Can't have 100,000 extra votes in Finland people will be able to tell.

Missed this but this is infuriating. This is NOT a minor thing, I've been a mod myself in some discords and if someone "backseat mods" and its 100% legitimate, they get a fucking pass. Especially for something so damn egregious. Like if someone is posting porn or whatever, you don't punish someone for saying "STOP POSTING PORN". The "backseat mod" 100% gets a pass. Now if its borderline spamming, or something more subtle sure...but this is straight up crime. Mald is total shit.
