I know a previous slide showing the income of the PS5 gen being the most profitable and what not was shown, but there was a companion slide that I found more interesting:
According to this more than half of all the PlayStation Store's revenue comes from the 30% cut Sony gets for all the microtransactions associated with live-service games run by third parties. Is it any wonder why Sony is so Hell bend to have their own successful live-service so they can rake in 100% of that potential profit?
The funniest part to me is that the blueprint to achieve such a goal has been staring at them the whole time but because of the woke ideological possession that took hold of the company they have refused to copy that successful strategy: literally just make live-service gatchas full of collectible cute anime girls and watch the money flow in.
Genshin Impact alone is estimated to have generated over $6 Billion in revenue during its lifetime and there are other similar titles of its kind that have done even better. People just eat that shit up, X in the last few days has been inundated with memes of Uma Musume. a gatcha about collecting, training and competing anime girls inspired on horse racing; over $2 Billion in revenue so far.
But what does Sony do? Concord = ugly characters , FairGames = ugly characters, Marathon = ugly characters. Millions wasted that could have been used to create their own AAA gatcha that could have potentially given them billions in return, but no, lets push "the message" (that nobody wants) and appeal to "the modern audience" (that doesn't exist). It is insane how screwed Sony would be without their PSN MTX revenue.
