He forgot to mention the other aliens that taught Samus the dash and jump on ledges that you can save:

Yeah, I noticed that. I guess Fusion never takes place in the AVGN timeline.

From reading reviews on it, the majority say to avoid it as it can damage your games and even the nes motherboard. It seems the best route is simply cleaning the connector/games and tightening up the pins.
This is news to me. I have two Blinking Light Wins (I somehow wound up with two NESes, I'm not sure how), and neither has ever hurt anything.

One criticism I heard back in the day was BLW (not to be confused with BLM) has a very tight grip at first so until you've used it for awhile, it'll be a struggle to remove games. Which is absolutely true but not really that big a deal.

That "tight grip struggle" will scrape and wear down the connections on the original cartridges. They are already what, like 40 years old anyway? But, hey, you do you.

Thread tax: James is bald, autistic, walks like a duck, fucks over his friends, chose the Slobs as his hill to die on, can't tie himself up with an onion to save his life and is so fucking boring that he just released a video about METROID, one of the most popular retro game series, and nobody is even talking about him or his video in his own thread. :story:

The thing is, the tight grip is a temporary thing. After awhile of usage it stops being so tight. It's more like a breaking in process.

Also for a long time I was only playing multicarts and repro carts anyway, so there's that.

THREAD TAX: Umm...... eh. I kinda already said what I think of Rolfe's review. As for Metroid itself, I used to be a fan. In other topics I've said that I felt like the series lost its way around the time of Fusion and Prime.

First-party Nintendo franchises in general for me feel like a case where a lot of them no longer serve a purpose. I didn't like Metroid Dread on the Switch for example, and part of what didn't help is I could easily get games like Axiom Verge 1 and 2, either of which is just easily better than Nintendo's own efforts.

I've fallen off the AVGN/Cinemassacre for a while (Goonies 1 & 2 was where I called it quits). While it's nice seeing James continuing the series for 20 years, at some point, you gotta throw in the towel. I'm fine with James doing movie reviews and stuff, but the Nerd should have retired after Earthbound or even the Mega-Man episode. Just a personal opinion from a long-time viewer

But where is he going to earn his kids' college fund? Do you want them to suffer?

I was pleasantly wrong with my first prediction when seeing the Metroid episode uploaded.

"Is he really just take the footage from when he and Mike played them in J&MM??"

But no, That beast replayed them for the episode :) Was expecting to see the same Super Game Boy colors they used and all, but it says "Gameplay by James". Must've been a first in a long god ass while?

I've also sometimes used save states if I'm not actually interested in playing the game but just am curious about some minor aspect--like going through both the Japanese and English versions of the game to see what changed, for example, or trying to figure out how a certain mechanic works.
I've done that with a few games that I remember seeing in magazines back in the day. I'm not excited about playing the game I just want to see what the game was like.

One that comes to mind if Operation Logic Bomb, it looked somewhat interesting from the tiny screenshots I remember seeing and the title was intriguing for some reason.

Turns out it had some neat stuff.

Now I know. Not really, I smoked weed while save scumming it so I just have a vague memory of it being ok.

I love Gwar. I have a recording of them feeding Jerry Springer to a giant butthole on stage.
Shit and gay band. "Hey what if we made bulshit music! Wait, no, what if we made really bad music but also sprayed shit on the audience!! I know something even better: we make horrible trash and gay music and spray shit all over our audience from our cocks!!!"

- What do you call the act?
- The Aristocrats! No, scratch that, we'll call it GWAR.

I like GWAR because of who they are(were?). They were essentially some kind of punkish art collective doing weird shit for fun. Gwar was the successful act that brought in money but they did other things. Gwar also used to open for themselves as another band/act but eventually dropped it because the crowd didn't get it. That's funny.

It did make me wonder if Metroid was the origin of tranny speed running:
* Speed running a game as a concept.
* Reward is sexual gratification.
* Main character is opposite gender than she appears
I don't know but I remember the first speed run I ever watched was a Super Metroid speedrun. It was the world record at the time and the runner was listed as female. It was before the days of gender faggotry so I just assumed it was an actual woman and was kind of surprised by it. Years later I noticed a lot of speed runners were trannies and I thought about that Super Metroid run again and I realized that it was almost definitely a tranny and it made me kind of disappointed.

I can feel you. A couple years ago I discovered a female Commodore 64 game programmer and was briefly impressed. Then I remembered that trannies were a thing. This person constantly posts under "her" name instead of a handle or company name, and uses "her" own picture as an avatar, which are major red flags.
An AI search confirms this person is an old-school troon.

The person who ported Doom to the 3DO is widely reported to be a woman.

When I first heard that I thought it was an interesting fact and went about my day but years later I realized that it was, of course, a tranny. This annoyed me and my annoyance grew into my unironic support for fascism and genocidal holy war which I hold today.

Anyway, to tie it back into this thread, I always skip over James talking about the 3DO port of Doom because I don't want to hear about it. I don't want to relive that feeling of being bamboozled.
