I would beg to differ on that statement. Most of them likely have jobs, but most gamers are
extremely loyal to a few games. Gaming is an absurdly cheap hobby for most players once you get past the moderately steep initial investment into a system.
Steam users played on average only 4 different games last year. Even if we assume that half the userbase is just bots and alts, that's still maybe 7 or 8 unique games played a year. And on top of that, of these few games,
two thirds of the time played in games was spent on games that were over 8 years old. Most people are sitting in their creature comfort games (many of which are free to play!), maybe picking up a new title here and there. They're likely spending more on electricity than they are on flavor of the month games and the whole lineup of blockbuster games each year. Video gaming is absurdly cheap $/hour if you aren't chasing the tippy top of everything.
