World of Warcraft

What really pisses me off about this is that it would be SO FUCKING SIMPLE to give the chair literally ANY means to fly. Just tilt the wheels into a V-shape and add some glow and particle effects, BAM! Flying chair that doesn't look completely lazy and terrible.

Not to mention that it looks so... handmade, but is completely translucent. Usually magic, flying platforms in wow look like they're made out of a single piece, or at least as few as is possibly required.

View attachment 7588091

Which means Khadghar intentionally created a rickety wooden contraption out of magic, way overcomplicating the spell to add wheels and shit, and then never uses the wheels. We're supposed to believe he's one of the greatest archmages to ever live... It's all so frustrating.

Yeah, when I saw that, I had a kind of spit-take. I couldn't believe it was real as I broke away from WoW a long time ago, but damn. This is bad even for modern Blizzard.

You are a master wizard, and you made a shoddy-looking wheelchair, and it can fly? It looks so fucking bad, and ignoring the whole if this is pandering or not that I have some talk about, as a concept, it looks bad and patronizing.
Why is it not like a Floating Disk, an elemental carrying him around, a summoned magic creature to ride?
No, make it a shitty-looking wheelchair that looks like it was made by outsourcing to the lowest possible contractor.
Even if you, at times, want him to have a wheelchair, why not make it look intricate and well-designed? Nope, let's make it look like shit. Don't you feel appreciated, all you handicapped people?

In contrast, this is Taimi from Guild Wars 2. Many people dislike her, and she can be annoying, but that's not the point.
She has some weird sickness thing, so she can't walk properly and is disabled. So she is slow, limps around, and has some other things. BLABLABLA!.
I am bringing it up because, in lore, she made a Golem so she could move around and so on.
Golems are Common with the Asura (her race), and she is a "Genius," so this plays into what she is supposed to be in the story.

Taimi_(Scruffy).webp

If this were Blizzard, it should likely be in a flying purple shitty-looking Iron loung.

This is Khadgar a mage, make him do cool mage shit to help him overcome these limitations.

A damaged, battle-scarred character is fun and interesting and there are tons of similar types done throughout fantasy and speculative fiction in general.

But the preachy, hamfisted attempts at arguing someone is fully capable (or whatever) despite having a disability, or that a disability doesn't hamper them? It's stupid because it just ignores the realities of a situation.

There's a difference between infantilizing or coddling someone who has a disability (ie, pretending they're retarded because they're in a wheelchair) and acting like someone in a wheelchair can do the exact same things an able-bodied person can do.

I hate characters like this because it is so patronizing to people with disabilities and ignores the actual issues they face by just hand-waving it away as not being a problem with magical thinking.

Now, I am not a massive fan of Game of Thrones or anything like that, but Jamie Lannister , he is one of the best swordsmen in the kingdom, and he loses his dominant hand, so he can no longer fight and therefore has to retrain to learn how to fight left-handed. He never fully overcomes it and has to deal with this handicap, but instead, he becomes an interesting character.

I had a friend who had severe birth defects from the time he was born. Severe deformities of his entire body, and he was wheelchair-bound his whole life.
He died some years ago because of complications with his heart and deformities in his organs. He was dealt a shit hand in life, but he held a job he liked, had many friends, enjoyed good hobbies, traveled when he could, and did his best to live as fulfilling a life as possible, given the limitations he faced. He never lived a "normal" life, as he literally could not, and at times, he had to ask for help because simple things were not possible for him.
He had numerous limitations, yet the fact that he accomplished so much in his life is truly remarkable.

In media, disabilities should be presented for what it is: a limitation, and potentially an extremely limiting one, rather than some accessory that is as life-altering as wearing a hat.

Instead, this is pandering that not only feels insulting but also cheap.

I wonder what hellbound retard at blizzard thought that the WoW audience craved a tower defense auto battler or that zoomers would be fucking locked into the WoW ecosystem by something like looks like a more-homosexual Clash of Clans.
stuff like that is usually not for the existing audience, but taking "brand" beyond so people who have no time for WoW can be part of the club. then they might try WoW proper, but if not you still turned them into consumers playing your game, not someone else'.

it worse because even the most casual retard will go "a wheelchair. that can fly. ...why the fuck does it need wheels?"

They could've welded the wheelchair on top of the mage class mount and I would've just thought it was funny instead of retarded.Photos_2025-07-04_14-11-08.webp

The wheelchair looks shitty because they reused the asset for Drek’thar’s wheelchair, and applied a purple glow effect to make it look more magical.
I don’t mind Khadgar being in a wheelchair for a while, I think it mostly looks bad because of the purple glow effect.

They're doing the thing where they try to bend the lore around her to make her seem more important to the story than she should be at this point in her involvement. It (personally) feels very unearned and forced. They're also foreshadowing a relationship between her and everyone's favorite(?) perfect pure boy Anduin. Of course, Danath fucking Trollbane is calling her the future of the human kingdoms in the latest questline that contained the terrible cutscene.
Self inserts, self inserts everywhere.

I can raise people from the dead

Cure any disease with a single click

purge poisons and fortify the soul to the point you can tank more damage

but no...I can not cure the crippled white dude nor can I regrow some nigger she-boons arm even though there is a spell literally called Regrowth.

This is why I play on private servers and give Blizzard nothing. They deserve nothing. This new lore is pure unadulterated woke Cal-Arts shit.

This is the franchise that hit a major character with an insanely rare poison during an assassin attack that he was only able to survive due to his extreme fortitude and then two expansions later kills him off with a random demon poison that never comes up again (but only after he gives his faction to the writer's GF because a ghost told him to).

Even if there was a lore reason - there's literally 0 reason he cannot just use a Goblin or Dwarven contraption to give him mobility.

We Behead the Giant Robots from Outland.

Take the mount you had from the Goblin Starting Zone/Undermine bullshit car

Put that on as a head.

Khadgar has his own Giant Robot.

Edit : Bonus Points in that he has side kicks that are love interests.

The problem with wheelchairs on important characters in fantasy is it's retarded. It's a world of floating magic disks, spider tanks, mechanical limbs more advance than biological ones and much more. If you want to show a disabled character it should be in a way that elevates the experience and inspires someone to think of what if and what could be if they or science applies itself in the real world. Instead they always choose to drag things down because god forbid someone in a wheelchair sees an exciting fantasy wheelchair that's a spider contraption that makes them more functional than if they fixed their legs, instead it has to be the most shitty version of a wheelchair made of magic.

It's retarded in general to insert real world representation in a fantasy world that can't support it to begin with. There's a reason why wheelchairs don't largely exist in fantasy media. It's because it has no place for it to exist in a universe of magic and or hyper technology. As if actual people in wheelchairs want to see more wheelchairs when they play a game to ESCAPE FROM REALITY. No one in a wheelchair is thinking to themselves "Hmmm in this fantasy world where I can be anything I want, I want to be some cuckold stuck in a wheelchair in this world too!"

The point of fiction is to tell a story not entirely based on reality, especially if it's fantasy themed because that's what it is, a fantasy. Disabled people don't fantasize about being even more disabled. Ask any of them if they could be isekai'd, if they'd rather have working limbs or not and 9 times out of 10 they'll ask you if you're retarded because the answer is pretty fucking obvious.

There also has to be some suspension of belief. If a random, average mook got hurt and was forced to be in a wheelchair temporarily, okay, that makes sense. A spinal injury forcing someone to be in a wheelchair? Okay, fine.
But don't apply that same logic to a well established character that's supposed to be this souped up, giga mage who can use magic and turn into a literal fucking bird and fly. You can't sit there and tell me that he can't think of a cool mode of transport or just use his magic to make his legs fucking walk.

He at least looks like a leader, but it's only a matter of time before they do something to ruin it.

With the goblins now being happy peaceful merchants, and the Defias being thieving incels that help no-one, who is likely to be next on the chopping block? What's still good enough to be regarded as 'cool' by most of the WoW community.
Dwarves have managed to dodge a lot of the shit so far. Moira was pretty sucky this expac compared to her typical scheming, manipulative actions previously, but she could recover (which cant be said for a lot of the other characters).

And Warcraft Dwarves have always been some of the coolest Dwarves. So if anyone gets slaughtered after the Goblins its probably them.

If not them...Demon Hunters maybe? Their story was one of the best parts of Legion and they've been ignored ever since. Maybe they come back to get assfucked? I heard Midnight had some demons coming back, why not the Hunters too?

just remembered, there are already golems in fucking WoW since vanilla. all they'd need is resize a goblin harvester. not dogshit writers could even spin a cool story around it, who doesn't love big-ass robots?

A lot of what people disliked about Taimi is she was at the time very clearly the writer's favorite character. So despite having weaknesses like not being able to walk or generally being fragile she did everything. She was right about everything, she generally got away with pushing aside anyone or insulting other established characters. Including ignoring other Asura and being right about it despite her being framed as a naive but gifted kid. Even amongst Asura she was considered hyper intelligent which is their racial shtick.

She just got way over-exposed and favored so people grew tired of her being shilled for endlessly. I have no idea if they got the message but Taimi's golem (which did have a rudimentary personality) and suit were neat. Well liked, too. I remember a lot of comments saying they preferred the golem to Taimi or said the golem was the real hero.

Sticking Khadgar on a cool floating disk, in a suit, or even just having him be forcibly sidelined in some fashion would work just fine. Dude is not only supernaturally aged but now ACTUALLY pushing into the part of life where he isn't going to bounce back from injuries instantly. That lame-ass wheelchair is pathetic though considering Khadgar established himself upon his reintroduction as being an incredibly powerful mage and highly resourceful. Kael'thas could float his fey ass around just off the ground and change gravity, you mean to tell me Khadgar can't hover? Fuck off.

It's just pure laziness and blatant Blizzard diversity points choices. Sure he's old but he's worth more diversity points if he's old AND crippled in a wheelchair!

that's diversity's edge in a nutshell. each of those characters were equally insufferable and written like some writer's special snowflake self insert (or one writer pulled off the incredible feat of writing a whole ensemble of equally annoying cutouts).
what made it worse there was some noticeable grain of greatness in each of them, the basic background, motivations and goals were all solid, even shit like "only brown norn with mommy issues" but the execution ran into a wall repeatedly ending up like a vegetable. but that's basically all of gw2...

you mean to tell me Khadgar can't hover? Fuck off.
wait a minute, wasn't he able to turn into a crow and fly? you don't even need your fucking legs for it.

Yes he has all the magic within Karazhan as well as Medivh's staff which allows him to transform into a crow. Hovering, flying, whatever should be a laughable feat for Khadgar.

I think gameplay wise dragonflight and WWithin have been steps in the right direction, but I can't ignore how ass the story telling has become. I started playing at the tail end of mists and we went from shit like siege of orgrimmar to watching two gay centaurs buttfuck each other. I hate having to ignore all the new lore since it could be really cool if the writers weren't such shit.

Demon Hunters are back next patch, they’re learning void powers from the velves. No idea what that quest will be like though.
