Did you watch season two? Not even being a dick, but the detective Cole thing was more of a pre-twist reveal characteristic. And yeah, I guess he didn't have to lean in to the antagonist thing, the same way Letty didn't have to play a villain in season one. But then we'd be sitting here calling him nontent rather than talking about him once every month.

Spoiler: more overly complicated Cole analysis

I think you're misunderstanding my point. It's not the Cole was "better" than Jon. Both had significant content output during their respective seasons. It's that the role Cole was being asked to fill was completely different than Jon's, but still approached by production as if he was a Jon. There was an unspoken agreement for the show's narrative, the same Letty had in season one.

Production was effectively telling Cole, "We want you to lean into the richboy asshole role because it gets the other fish off their asses and creates conflict and anticipation for what is to come. We know you have no allies, but you are the audience favorite. Because of the mental taxation such a role will have, we will provide you the support along with the audience to get you through it."

Production broke this agreement the second they made Cole spar with Jimmy and take punches from Sam. Not as a part of a challenge, but because they wanted to hone in on Cole in particular. They were treating Cole differently than the role he was assigned, and that is precisely why he was pissed off. If you're going to beat up a fish, do it with retards like TJ and Jimmy, not the fish you want central to the house narrative. They weren't playing to his strengths, and instead fell back treating Cole like a season one fish when he wasn't one.

That's actually a big problem season two had. Production rarely let the fish stand on their own merit, instead treating them like fish they weren't. You can't treat a Cole like a Jon the same way you can't treat TJ like a Letty or Jimmy like a Vance. They are completely different with strengths and weaknesses in regards to generating particular forms of content. Production failed to understand this, and instead chased the ghost of season one's past.

Hit me with rainbows but seeing that Burt and Jimmy were planned as FLs does recontextualize things for me a bit. Along with compiling different opinions and theories I have seen others make.

I will preface, the Wiggers are piss poor at contingency plans. There always should be a "nuclear" option that doesn't consist of scrambling at the 11th hour. But I don't buy that it was an intentional scam that they wanted to end it at week two.

My favorable, overly optimisitc, benefit of the doubt, Aryeh ass, cartoon brained outlook, is that they wanted this to be the last hurrah of the 3 original houses. With the known local issues piling up they probably knew doing a full season at one of the houses was a pipe dream. So doing two weeks at each house, they probably assumed they could wade out the fines and law long enough to get their two weeks in and then start the clock over at the next location. Giving the fans what they want by having an offical heckin Marvel cross over movie for all the seasons up to this point.

Once the season was completed they would do what was stated at the abrupt end of this season, sell the properties and have a more long term solution warehouse.

I could be wrong, but again this does not absolve them, the fault still lies on them for the above mentioned nuclear option contingency plan not being established when the worst happened, and also they need to genuinely just do a post season debrief where they open up about their thought process and what went wrong. This would at the very least prevent the schizo posts, but maybe the legal part is still keeping them vague.
