Because it has always been a scam. He isn't the first one to realize that having a game in a permanent development state is much more lucrative than finishing the game, his game is just so simple from a technical perspective it doesn't really have plausible deniability like some others do. Once he saw that there was more money in pretending to be a game developer streamer than releasing the game, it was an easy decision for Mald. If you take literally thousands of hours of him having his Matrix Notepad++ open pretending to do game development on stream while talking about how he worked at Blizzard, you won't find a single clip of him actually writing a function.

I hope once the SKG arc is over there will be room for him to be exposed for his completely transparent game development scam.
Yet instead of choosing something impressive like Star Citizen (obviously due to skill), he chose a shitty Undertale clone I could have made in middle school (if it existed then).

is that enough to relieve them of their burden or should they also be forced to let people host concord for the 5 people who actually liked it
I honestly believe all the problems people have with these things is that they effectively are stealing your money, so if they shut down the game but reimburse you all the money you paid for base game and mtx, no one would have an issue, but the problem here is that they're basically shutting down the servers and pocketing the money while people don't have their products, basically effectively stealing your money.
It's as if I bought a washing machine, used it for 2 years, and since the manufacturer decided to drop support and move to a new model, they come to my house and cut all the cables so it doesn't work anymore, this is what they're effectively doing, more or less.

Out of curiosity, what do you think should happen to games where both the devs and the players think it's dogshit? Like Concord. Sony refunded all the people who bought that game and killed it- is that enough to relieve them of their burden or should they also be forced to let people host concord for the 5 people who actually liked it?
Plenty enough to relieve them of that burden. No one in the end paid for the game because they were refunded for it.

Cherry on top for me personally is the fact that all of this is happening while he's playing that new Dune game which is appealing to the newer fans with a shallow presentation that does a poor job of representing the interesting world inside the books. Of course Jason would be super into famous franchise MMOwannabe slop made for pretentious assholes. It's like Narcissus looking into the fucking water and seeing himself. He just can't help it.
IF the new Dune game doesn't have the ost from the David Lynch movie, i'm not playing it. That film's ost is otherworldly levels of amazing, that I can hear it whenever I thinknof Dune, or read the books. To me, it is as much of a part of the series' setting as Arrakis is. Without it, it isn't Dune to me.

he wanted to be thought of as a writer and thinker with that bullshit game

he chose wisely nerds and more particularly his fans are retarded but he is a shit writer first. Being a shit programmer is way way lower on his list of priorities

Hey if they'd launched with a plan for shutting it down and moving it to minimal ongoing costs maybe they wouldn't have needed to refund everyone. Live service games when they die now are beached whales that need to be blown the fuck up to be gotten rid of. perhaps if all of their business model architects and software engineers planned better for the contingency of "people aren't playing" they'd not have burned half a billion dollars in public like Indians burn widows.

How many would be "safe" for this?
Ross says 1,200,000 is the safe margin, but I respectfully disagree. I won't consider it safe until it gets to 2 million.

And if you think that's too much to get, lemme pull up the screencap again.

Funny you say that. I'm actually in the process of making a whole new OP from scratch
I'm still in the process of making a new OP, but I need to bring something from the past that is extremely funny in today's context. The old Second Life comments under the articles talking about his controversies, as Maldavius Figtree, is an absolute goldmine

THEY ALWAYS KNEW HE WAS A LOLCOW :story: :story: :story:

Talk about foreshadowing here :story:. Even back then, everyone knew

Jason has literally NOT CHANGED at all, he's still the same Maldavius Figtree from the Second Life in 2006

it's kind of incredible. the whole internet really did used to be just like kiwifarms is. it brings a tear to my eye to witness what we've lost.

It's pretty wild how some would argue that making a Live Service game offline is "impossible" or "expensive" when games like Megaman Dive Offline and Animal Crossing Pocket Camp Complete exists. Both games leaned heavily to timed events and constant updates. Now you can access all content without needing to go online as the time mechanic works I shame without needing to connect to a server. And of course, purchasing tickets, gems and other common live service monetization have been removed and instead reworked or replaced with something else.
