China isn’t a peasant backwater, falling apart at the seams, or a totalitarian dictatorship, but it’s in no way capable of eclipsing the US. Their birth rates are in the shitter, the job market is awful, and manufacturing is getting siphoned off NAFTA style while drugs pour over the border from Southeast Asia, the bureaucracy ages and stagnates, and while the cities aren’t exactly empty, there is a housing market crisis waiting in the wings.

China is not a threat to anyone but themselves. They are currently making a bargain with the third world to offshore the economy that gave us Apple, Temu, Bad Dragon, etc. It’s the same bargain the US made in the waning days of the Cold War, and look where that got us. Maybe Chinese Trump is out there somewhere, seething at Myanmar from his condo in Shanghai.
