That's why I'm skeptical of Alberta independence despite my support of it. It would require a complete institutional overhaul, which would necessitate a change to a republic and shed any vestiges of the crown. Unfortunately, Alberta is just as saturated with (provincial) government employees who will fight tooth and nail to keep the status quo as well as too many with a rose-colored view of Canada as a whole. This country cannot be saved because no one wants to take the drastic measures needed even address the structural issues. For all the lip-service the neoliberals give to change, they benefit too much from the persistent stagnation and conditioned the populace to accept its miserable lot so that they will never demand actual accountability. Separation only shifts the problem from Ottawa to Edmonton.

Granted, Smith is far more practical on the issue of immigration and I trust her more than I do Carney.

Smith gets alot of mockery and is viewed as a clown by alot of people, but she is honestly a brilliant politician.

Alberta independence is the one thing that can split the United Conservative Party, and she has completely diffused that and pushed the party in a more rightwing direction without any friction.
