super mario bros was for 1337 h4rdc0r3 g4m3rzCasuals are the majority of the industry now
This isn't accurate at all. I don't mean for this to sound like an attack on you, it isn't. This is just a rant because I'm sick of sony fans and 'gamers' be so fucking retarded that they can't do math or think logically, which used to be prerequisite skills to be a gamer back in the day.and tragically it's paying off because the profits they are making with the PS5 are bigger than what they made on all the previous 4 consoles combined.
How many casuals owned a NES and Super Mario back in 1985?super mario bros was for 1337 h4rdc0r3 g4m3rz
no fucking way lmao. they are totally counting steam sales also havent they?Fourthly, The PS4 makes up 50%(!!!) of all PSN revenue and accounts.
Yes they are. It's why they've swapped to MAU over sales, so they can fiddle the numbers using PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox and Playstation accounts as 'sales'.no fucking way lmao. they are totally counting steam sales also havent they?

My parents and grandparents for starters. How many casuals owned a NES and Super Mario back in 1985?
3 less than how many people your mum has been with.100% of console gamers are casuals, so uhhh....how many millions is that?
My parents and grandparents for starters.
It's pretty much how I became a gamer. I was playing Pitfall and Pacman on Atari at the age of 2.
That’s the thing though, I’ve always been a strong believer that consoles have two key benefits over PC: They’re easier to use, even idiot-proof, and they offer unique experiences in the form of both exclusive games and gimmicks. Except that first point is becoming less and less true over time as consoles become more complex and PCs become more “click the Download button in Steam, plug in your control method of choice, and play”. PC is still more complicated than modern consoles, but not by that much. The number 1 reason for consoles to exist are exclusives. However, another big reason that's pretty much been lost the past few generations is the idea that software from the same company that makes the hardware should be able to take advantage of that hardware and push it beyond its theoretical limits in a way that no 3rd party developer could ever achieve. As many issues I have with the performance of totk on switch 1, holy fuck, an average developer probably couldn't get it running on a ps5. But then you look over at playstation, and, regardless of my problems with them as games, the only games at all that used the ps4 and ps5 to their fullest potential were death stranding 1 and 2. A 3rd party. I'm struggling to think of a 1st party that ran bad on playstation the past couple gens either, but none of them are pushing limits.
Very few because it was a limited release to New York only in 1985. It didn't come to the entire US until a year later in 1986.How many casuals owned a NES and Super Mario back in 1985?
Not only are they doing that, but ps5 has only JUST as of last quarter finally hit 50% of revenue. Meaning those "ps5 profits" they tout are SIGNIFICANTLY more than 50% ps4.no fucking way lmao. they are totally counting steam sales also havent they?
During part of its heyday Atari was owned by WB (and selling them was the stupidest thing WB ever did,) and its main competitors were a pair of toy companies. I'm not talking about Nintendo here, either. There might have been a ten year period where games companies controlled all of the main games consoles but thats only if you consider Nintendo to have become primarily a games company the moment the Famicom launched and don't consider NEC, Panasonic or Phillips to have been major competitors (which they were.)This maybe an unpopular opinion but personally I think the seeds for the downfall of gaming were planted all the way back when Sony pushed it's way into the industry and forced Sega to go third party .
Before the Sony Playstation the gaming industry was completely controlled by gaming companies (Atari, Nintendo, SEGA, SNK etc ), companies whose business model was wholly dependent on their games and consoles being purchased and loved by gamers. From the early days in the 70s all the way up to the early 90s the average gamer had a lot more power over the industry and how it was run then at any other point since, back then companies actually had to listen to our wants and demands if they wanted to be successful in this hobby.
After the success of the Playstation and the commercial failures of the Saturn and the Dreamcast Sega was forced to exit the hardware business.
This sequence of events gave Microsoft the chance they needed to enter the industry with the OG Xbox.
Soon after Apple, Google, Tencent and a dozen other Multinational corporations also entered the industry and fucked everything up .
The rise of Mobile gaming, Free to Play games, Pay to win mechanics , Micro transactions, Online Passes, Woke crap being inserted into every western Triple A game release etc all this can be viewed as the natural consequences of publicly traded multinational multi billion dollar corporations taking over the industry.
True. But the story feels a bit like Kill Bill.Women/Troon character aside, as long as Ghost of Yotei plays like the first game, and it looks like it will, the game is going to sell a ton.
You're wrong on Phillips, though the CDI was a massive flop, it was highly influential in its time (the much maligned 2D CD era) with Sega going so far as to set its specs as a "we must beat this" while developing the Saturn. Your handwaving of video game departments being "seperate entities" in the 80s is wrong too, if they're "seperate entities" then SCIE and its various iterations are too. This is a response to the user "whatever I feel like"
It's true that at one point Atari was owned by Warner, however it operated as it's own separate entity during those years, Warner themselves never developed or published any video games . Same thing with Intellivision and Mattel or ColecoVision with Coleco .
Nintendo became primarily a gaming company immediately after their first success with the Game Watch handhelds, Sega became a gaming company even earlier then Nintendo.
In the case of NEC while it's true that they created the iconic PC Engine console they only did so after partnering with Hudson Soft (a gaming company ). Without Hudson's first party games supporting NECs hardware the PC Engine would never have stood any chance of competing against Nintendo or Sega.
As for Panasonic they never created their own console, the 3DO company ( a gaming company ) contracted Panasonic to manufacture 3DO hardware , but they weren't the only company manufacturing 3DO consoles ( the 3DO situation is similar to what Xbox is doing right now with the Asus Xbox Ally partnership ).
As for Philips they were never a major player in the Industry, their only console the CDI is one of the biggest gaming flops in history, they never stood any chance of competing against the original big three console manufacturers ( Atari, Nintendo and Sega ).
In conclusion before 1994 no multinational billion dollar corporation ( with trivial exceptions ) ever managed to truly break into the market and steal market share away from the real gaming companies, not until the PlayStation came onto the scene and changed everything ( for the worse in my opinion ) .
you say what?!Dunno about the rest of you but I'm bored to tears by the classical Japanese Sengoku or Edo or whatever it's called aesthetic, even if it contains fantasy elements.
Holy shit, that narration. It sounds like the guy was literally reading the script for the very first time while they recorded it and they just went with that take. Especially the part where's listing all the warlord names and it sounds like he's audibly trying his best to pronounce them correctly without ever having read or said them before.you say what?!
I'm not, because we haven't got very many good ones. Last one I can remember is Onimusha, unless you count Soulslike stuff, which I really don't.Dunno about the rest of you but I'm bored to tears by the classical Japanese Sengoku or Edo or whatever it's called aesthetic, even if it contains fantasy elements.
The only good Sony IPs still alive right now are Gran Turismo
