Diseased Open Source Software Community - it's about ethics in Code of Conducts

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.

Fun fact, Linus Torvald's great-grandpa was a prominent OG National Socialist and translated "On the Jews And Their Lies" and "Protocols of the Elders of Zion" into Finnish and ran a Der Sturmer ripoff.

Of course, you don't pick who you're related to. But you know, it is a fun fact.
Patriot.

@RGBCube I respectfully disagree that projects should be "neutral" and "non-reactionary", to me that is just needlessly kneeling to faggots and their Dark Triad+Retarded+CoC+Janny tactics.
As you can see, libtards only have fuel to "burn" themselves, and it was very funny that the Canonical town rapist thought he could pass judgement.

Every project is a reactionary act against the industry, it's just that it wasn't overtly "nu-political" because it wasn't about trannies and their grooming rights.
The struggle of Gruppenführer Richard "rms88" Stahlmann of keeping the MIT License spirit alive, he might have gone too far in a few places (GPLv3).
Theo de Raadt being kicked out of FreeBSD, causing the birth of OpenBSD, many such cases!

I know that there is worry of fragmenting "the community", but there is no "community", there is only good, comfy software.
But sometimes a schism is necessary for an autist to be able to work on something without some tranny faggot gayoping a formerly alive website like "freedesktop.org",
these things come and go.
The mere fact that git is designed as a decentralized program is a testament that it's all about reactionary schism, LinuSS knows.

We just have to hope that it's a split over developer disagreements and technical matters, such reasons are more likely to produce better software.
And I think that's what XLibre is, it's a good opportunity for new blood to learn and work on X11,
without the oldfags at freedesktop.org seething that some people don't want to use wayland, yet (wayland will be usable in 2055).

Many newdevs will learn C and what xor is on the XLibre project, and metux has enough experience to lead a project like this, similar to a Theo situation.

Some of the troon autists here will probably shill Arch or NixOS, but generally from what I see:
-Debian/Devuan/Mint
-Artix
-Gentoo
-OpenMandriva
-Slackware
Jeremy Bicha is maintainer in debian and has a @debian.org email address and i don't see Debian kicking him out. In fact, they went completely silent on this.
Edit: Also remember the drama with Norbert Preining, KDE maintainer for Debian for over a decade, who got kicked out from Debian for not supporting their political stances. So Debian is definitely off the table.

Gentoo is alright, i did run it for years, but it does get a bit taxing.

OpenMandriva is great. But since it is a 100% Community distro with no company backing, you should be ready to contribute yourself as well at some point. Like learning how to write a spec file to package something..
OpenMandriva wins for me.
But i was already packaging for Fedora before, so it's not much of an issue, if i miss something, i can add that myself.

It would be incredibly funny to see Gnome relegated to being a second class citizen in Fedora
It’ll never happen. The whole reason Gnome is what it is now is because that’s what Red Hat wants (a minimum “workstation” option that supports the language and accessibility stuff they need to win government contracts).

Once Novell realized supporting the “Linux desktop” was a waste of money and Gnome 2 died, that was pretty much it.

I still use Gnome, because to me it’s still the least offensive Linux desktop. KDE (I’m not fucking calling it “Plasma Desktop”) is for people who live in System Settings.

all distros have the exact same userland software you goofballs
True. You can make any distribution work the way you like it.
Like the prominent "In distribution A nvidia drivers are easier to set up than in B" is such a nothingburger.
The nvidia drivers work the same everywhere. If you need one click to install them or ten commands, doesn't make any real difference, because you only have to do that once.

Distro-hopping is the dumbest thing..... and i have a hard time believing that it is even real.
Are there really people who install a different distribution and start from scratch every time a package doesn't work the way they like it?
In what world is this easier than just fixing the thing they dislike?

I don’t give a shit what open source contributors do on their personal time, who they work for, whether they are Jewish or Muslim, whether they rape kids or not, or whether they are criminals. If their code is good, it’s good. It is not the responsibility of open source projects to police their contributors. That is what the police are for.

I'm not sure where this is buried in the court documents (it starts getting into dozens of pages a bunch of cross-examinations and character witness stuff that's hard for me to sit through) but I saw someone on /g/ bring up that in addition to his 3 sisters (two of which testified) he also admitted to molesting an unrelated 10 year old girl at church while he was 15. This must be the 4th known victim his sister mentioned in her testimony.

Does OpenMandriva have a Pi5 image? I've been running it on my laptops and it's a very usable distro. I'd like to get away from Debian as much as possible before some tranny dev inserts malware to own the chuds. At some point one of these kid fuckers is going to try something and there is a non-zero chance the organization will let him. These people are willing to burn down the entire world if it means they can jack it to child porn, after all.

This is great mindset if you want troons to take over your project.

People usually don't want to cause active harm if they cannot somehow justify it to themselves or if it isn't socially acceptable. Even most people in history involved in horrendous things like genocide had some framework of justifications; "it needed to be done", "god demands it" things like that, at the very least. I didn't read what was linked much but the sheer frequency in which he committed his crimes, even as a kid, shows to me that he did not only accept the harm as possible side effect of his sexual gratification, but most likely causing the harm was also a goal, something he also enjoyed. You don't rehabilitate such people and such people do not change, because they're literally missing parts in their brain that makes them like other people. They don't see anything wrong with their behavior. Quite the contrary, therapy usually just teaches such people tools with which they can learn to stay more "hidden", behave more normally in order to be able to exploit and harm more people. Everybody knows that the modern tech industry and especially FOSS orgs are a haven for weirdos and very accepting. He knew exactly what he was doing when he applied to the place he applied.

I'd be very surprised if he was squeaky clean now. If you searched harddrives, you'd probably find things. People like this really just need to be locked up to protect society. Not much more you can do with them. Since that is not gonna happen I'm pretty sure he'll just re-offend eventually. I just hope he will get caught quickly and in the attempt, without completing it.

Yes, he brought it on himself, and Canonical would be completely correct in firing him, but not for a crime he's already served time

Disagree. Companies take measures against people and organizations all the time for what they consider "reputational risk". Consider what Null has had to go through to get just basic things like a bank account, and he hasn't even committed a crime. Society is happy to punish people for things that aren't even illegal, the least they can do is completely shun someone who RAPED MULTIPLE CHILDREN.

You can't just "let" these fuckers exist in your project. We've seen ample evidence of this. If you do not expressly ban them, and root them out/kick them when they pop up, they will corrode, plot to take over, and eventually destroy your project. Neutrality is a losing stance when your opponent has zero intention of being neutral, ever. You are assuming good or at least neutral intent when the opposite has been shown, over and over. At some point, that's on you for being a blind or cowardly moron.

These people (the dev from Xlibre included) that take a milquetoast, soft stance of "we just care about the code!" are just setting themselves up for more trouble down the line. Whether its troons or "MAP"-shit or whatever filthy combination Jeremy is, you gotta say no, I'm not allowing it, and damn the consequences. These people are not mentally or emotionally right, they don't think like you and me. I get that computer nerds badly want things to just be ok and blinky lights to blink green, but sometimes nasty shit has to be taken out to the trash.
