DC Comics Multimedia General - A crisis of infinite fuck ups

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
Luthor's portrayal felt similar to the High Evolutionary. In that the movie goes out of it's way to make him the most petulant, unlikable character he can be. I don;t mind that. It's better than having a villain that has almost no character at all, such as Ronan from Guardians 1.
It's sort of the opposite of what I wanted out of Lex from Holt, which was like cold evil quiet thinking son of a bitch, who maybe has one major emotional outburst behind closed doors, but I didn't dislike what we got, just totally not what I expected. It's one of the things in the movie I think is supposed to be "fun" that played for me. he's playing it to be the most unlikable motherfucker possible and I respect that.

It's pretty obvious that Ultraman is supposed to become Bizarro in the next movie, with that black hole either simply disfiguring him or actually sending him to Bizarro World. But with this shaping up to be a legendary box office bomb, we're never going to see a sequel. James Gunn's DC Universe is done for (and hopefully capeshit as a whole).
I actually wouldn't be surprised for Amazo to make an appearance.

It baffles me that we still haven't gotten a live-action Superman with Brainiac as the antagonist. He's like the go-to Superman villain in literally everything else DC-related like cartoons, video games, books, etc, but live-action seems to avoid him like the plague. What gives?
A combination of opportunities and lack of will. Writing for smart villains isn't easy. Writing for someone like Joker or Lex Luthor is far easier.

I wish that the movie ended by revealing that not Palestine actually was evil all along and maybe having them try to nuke the US, making Superman realize that not every victim is a good guy and that not every victim deserves divine protection.
Ehhhhh, that's really more a sequel lesson as opposed to a first movie lesson. Stories need to go in an action, reaction, counteraction, consequences motion. Most first movies like this only can do action and reaction because it's just a 2 hour movie. That's why, to Snyder's credit the opening of Dawn of Justice is largely praised.

That Warner Bros bet the farm on him to be their Kevin Feige and deliver them their own version of the MCU suggests to me that that company is run by people who fundamentally fail to understand the intellectual properties under their control.
You're asking A LOT from executives. You're lucky if they know the difference between Superman and Batman. I don't how many times I need to remind you people that these are boomers. If these people were shown Green arrow and Hawkeye they couldn't tell the difference. If you're asking then why are they in charge, nigga we've been asking that for 50 years.

"I think I'm sick of James Gunns schtick"
I've been calling them James Gunnisms. It's not really fair to say though because it isn't his fault. In a vacuum, Gunnisms are fine in his own movies. It's just his style. You're sick of it because EVERYONE and their fucking sister tried to copy Guardians. It's not just in that genre either. It's in EVERY genre. His style of quips took over the MCU. It took over the horror genre. It took over the action genre. It took over everything. James Gunn, for the worst, is the most influential director in modern Hollywood. He's ruined his own style completely inadvertently and it's only because everyone copied him to try to get in that Guardians of the Galaxy success. I almost feel bad for the guy. His style is just tainted through sheer volume of mimicry. He doesn't really have THAT many movies.

I watched a bit of a camrip because I wanted to see the context of the "Kal-el! Go out and breed humans to the extreme!" message. It was leaked by Lex Luthor on live TV, looks glitchy like it was obviously doctored, and 100% would be something he would do to turn the public against Superman. That said, it doesn't appear as though that ploy was foiled in this movie, and the shill geek sites are reporting on the Viltrumite-esque retcon of Krypton as matter of fact. Maybe it'll be a plot point in a sequel, but for now it just seems like more subversive bullshit.

The file getting corrupted to begin with is a brainiac thing maybe.

Also introducing at the very last minute. Party whore supergirl who displays such character traits like being a bad dog owner and drinking. Great female role model.

I haven't seen the movie yet, and won't until it's out on VOD. Kids are too young and leaving them with a sitter just to see a comic book movie feels wrong... But according to lotta folks... The uncorrupted part was verified by Mr. Terrific to be authentic.

But it could be an additional plot point later in the franchise.

People kept calling them Whedonisms before, but Whedonisms do more for characterization. Gunnisms are the empty caloric version.

God damn it, I was gonna see this film today, Atleast the tickets were cheap....

Pretty sure you're taking some credit from Joss Whedon. Let's not forget that a little film called The Avengers was third highest-grossing film of all time in 2012, and all the smart-alec writing took off from there. I'm sure that when you have a mutli-team movie with quips it can be debated whether The Avengers or Guardians is the one they're copying, but I generally defer to the one that was older and more successful.

I kept waiting for the big reveal that it was all some Lexcorp deepfakery, and was genuinely surprised and frankly kinda pissed off when it never came.

Im surprised more people aren't mad about the blatant character assassination of Jor-el and Lara. I thought that would be the number one controversy.

I've never seen a movie with so many reviewers who can't seem to make up their minds. So many are saying it's both good and bad, it's great and awful, etc. After the Rotten Tomatoes score dropped, the YouTube reviewers seem to be hedging their verdict. Nothing I've heard, though, really gets me excited to go see the movie.
Most of them felt like I did, where they kinda liked it and hated it in equal measure.
